Escape from Tarkov’s upcoming 0.13 update is soon to release, and, over the past few days, a trailer was shown in order to highlight some key elements from what to expect. The trailer, combined with an interview from Tarkov’s head developer Nikita Buyanov in the first hour of the Twitch gaming gathering show, reveals some exciting facts regarding the new map.

Although there is no release date yet, an estimate would be around late 2021 or early 2022, depending on how fast the team progresses with this huge and definitely challenging project. Nevertheless, what we know is that 0.13 is something worth getting hyped about, as it will be Tarkov’s biggest and possibly most unique update to date.

10 Scale and Size

As revealed by the developers, the map will be massive, will multiple new and unique areas to explore while even featuring up to 40 players per raid. The map will be split into main areas, some of which have been introduced through the trailers.

So far, we have seen an area named Fallen City, and the latest reveal was the huge office-like building of Concordia. Nevertheless, this leads Escape From Tarkov even further towards the open-world game direction, and some fans might be worried that these games are getting too big.

9 Breachable Surfaces

Streets of Tarkov is going to add a new mechanic to the game in the form of thin destructible walls and wooden doors that will be breachable with explosives. Before that, the only options were to either open a door slowly or kick it and rush in.

We can assume that, other than grenades and grenade launchers, there will be new forms of explosives implemented in the update, primarily focused on breaching. These walls could even be breachable by some of the best high penetration ammunition.

8 BTR Vehicle

Probably the highlight of the whole trailer is the Russian BTR armored personal carrier equipped with a 30mm automatic cannon and filled with scavs. This will probably be one of the scav bosses on the new map, and seeing it arrive on an armored vehicle is terrifying. This will make roaming through the streets an unsafe option, especially considering the potential sniper players on all the buildings.

7 Scav Bosses

In order to showcase how huge this map really is, Nikita mentioned that there will be a minimum of two and probably up to 4 or 5 scav bosses throughout the map. Until now, no Escape from Tarkov map had more than one, despite there being some big maps like Shoreline.

Just the idea of running away from one boss, while moving towards another, and all that while hearing the BTR roaming around with a third one, can make players panic. And all these, while having to worry about other players nearby that will be alerted by any gunfire, can be a recipe for disaster.

6 Roaming Scav Bosses

Not only will there be multiple scav bosses, but they will also be roaming around the map. This will make moving around even harder,as there won’t be specific spots where scav bosses would be known to be around. Players will have to check every corner and every building before moving forward since running into a scav boss unprepared almost always leads to getting killed.

5 BTR As Taxi

Although the BTR will be used by the scav boss, it is also known that it will serve as a taxi in order to traverse the map quicker. The players will be able to pay the driver in order to transfer them to specific places, and, while in the BTR, players will be able to use its’ cannon. Perhaps there will be multiple BTR’s throughout the map, or it will only be accessible after killing its respective scav boss.

4 Moving Textures

As seen in the trailer, the building of Concordia will have detailed building interiors. Desks with monitors and files on top, as well as shelves with books and other stuff can be found throughout the hallways of the building. The best thing about those is that they will be scattered around after gunfire or explosions. Although this does not affect the gameplay directly, it significantly enhances the game’s immersion.

3 Scav Karma

One of the most unique features coming in 0.13 is the long-requested idea of scav karma. When the player is playing as a scav, their actions will now have consequences. Being friendly to other scavs will increase the player’s scav karma, which will be combined with the reputation of the trader Fence.

A higher scav karma will allow the player to buy new unique items from Fence, and, if it is high enough, the scav bosses could even help out during fights.

2 New Quests

Similar to Reserve, we can expect Streets of Tarkov to include some new progression quests. Perhaps they will be like Reserve, primarily focused on exploration, in order to help the player get more familiar with the map.

However, what can almost surely be expected is adding Streets of Tarkov as another required area for completing the infamous quest of Shooter Born In Heaven. Filled with potential sniping spots, Streets of Tarkov is almost ideal for this quest.

1 Scav Runs

A well-known feature of Escape from Tarkov is playing as a scav instead of using the main character. Scav runs in Streets of Tarkov will probably be the best way to traverse the map if player scavs aren’t blocked, as in Labs.

If the player manages to get a high scav karma, then moving around will become easier, as they won’t have to be afraid of the multiple scavs and scav bosses roaming around. On top of that, due to scav karma, player scavs will be more hesitant to kill other player scavs, which could further increase players’ chances of survival.
