An Eternals deleted scene would have made Harry Styles’ role as Eros/Starfox a lot better and bigger than just a cameo in the mid-credits scene.

Eternals Deleted Scene Wouldve Made Harry Styles Starfox Role Better

The mid-credits scene in Eternals introduced Eros/Starfox, played by Harry Styles, another Eternal and brother of Thanos, but his only appearance in the movie was actually cut short, and his deleted scene would have made his role a lot better. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 is introducing new characters and concepts, and in its third movie, it introduced a new team of heroes: the Eternals, who have actually been living and operating on Earth for centuries.

Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals introduced the title team: a race of aliens created by the Celestial Arishem and sent to Earth centuries ago to protect humans from the Deviants, their evil counterparts. Awaiting instructions from Arishem to return to their home planet, the Eternals spent centuries on Earth and helped humanity progress, but they weren’t allowed to interfere in their conflicts. Following the death of their leader, Ajak (Salma Hayek), Sersi (Gemma Chan) was appointed as the new Eternal in command and thus was the only one who could directly communicate with Arishem, and through that, she learned the truth about their kind and their real purpose: they were sent to Earth to keep humans safe so they could reach the prerequisites needed for the birth of another Celestial, whose seed was planted on Earth, and this “Emergence” meant the destruction of the planet – and they aren’t the only Eternals in the universe.

By the end of Eternals, half of the team – Sersi, Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), and Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) – stayed on Earth, and the other half – Thena (Angelina Jolie), Druig (Barry Keoghan), and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff) – left on the newly repaired Domo to find other Eternals in other parts of the universe. However, Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo were abducted by Arishem and taken to an undisclosed location, while the rest were intercepted by Eros, who offered his help as he knows where to find the rest. Eros’ appearance is very brief (and the introduction by his assistant Pip the Troll actually feels longer than Eros’ screen time), and it has been revealed that there’s a deleted scene that had him properly interacting with those in the Domo.

The cast of Eternals described the deleted scene, sharing it saw Thena, Druig, Makkari, and Eros sitting aboard the Domo with their eyes closed, communicating with Arishem. This, of course, would have given Harry Styles a slightly bigger part in Eternals and would have made his scene feel more as part of the story, but instead, his appearance was nothing more than a cameo and ended up feeling a bit off, as he didn’t even have enough time to say much beyond his name and his purpose. The existence of that scene also suggests Eros’ appearance could have been included as part of Eternals instead of being a mid-credits scene, and would have allowed the audience to get a bit more acquainted with Eros/Starfox, and could have even left viewers with another cliffhanger depending on how their conversation with Arishem went.

Of course, now that Eros has been introduced in the MCU and with the major cliffhanger left by Eternals, MCU fans can be sure he will be back in a sequel (or, possibly, in another movie, as lately characters have been showing up in different movies), now as part of the movie’s story. While Harry Styles’ MCU debut was exciting for many, his scene felt rushed and the character felt a bit off, and this could have been avoided had the rest of the scene not been deleted.
