Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Flash season 8 episode, “Armageddon, Part 4.”
The Flash time traveled at the end of “Armageddon, Part 3,” but the fourth installment of the five-episode crossover changed several aspects of the future. When Despero first appeared at the start of The Flash season 8, he was convinced that Barry was responsible for the end of the world in 2031. However, the culprit behind the changes in the timeline — which ultimately led The Flash to nearly cause Armageddon in the first place — was Reverse-Flash.
In The Flash’s “Armageddon, Part 4,” Eobard Thawne was the one struck by lightning on the night of the particle accelerator explosion. By going back in time and changing his life’s trajectory, the villainous speedster created a Reverse-Flashpoint that essentially removed traces of Barry from his own life. With a team of his own, Thawne turned everyone The Flash loves against him, with the villain going so far as to assume Barry’s identity as Central City’s hero.
With Thawne masquerading as The Flash, in control of S.T.A.R. Labs, and with his own team to aid him in battle, Barry was indeed having the worst day of his life. Here is every change revealed during The Flash’s alternate future in “Armageddon, Part 4.”
Ryan Choi Gets A Comics Accurate Suit As The Atom
First introduced in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, Ryan Choi is a physics professor who joined the rest of the Arrowverse’s superheroes, helping them defeat the Anti-Monitor as the Paragon of Humanity. While Crisis didn’t see Ryan become The Atom, the superhero mantle he takes up in the comics, The Flash’s “Armageddon, Part 4” delivers on the couple of teases laid out during his Arrowverse introduction. Not only is Ryan an official member of Team Flash, but he’s a full-fledged superhero in his own right.
To battle Damien Darhk, Ryan Choi finally gets to don his comics accurate suit, taking to the streets as The Atom. It’s the first time he’s worn the red and purple costume in the Arrowverse and it’s possible it won’t be the last. Ryan proved himself more than capable as a superhero during “Armageddon” and his presence in the future could foreshadow his eventual reappearance in the present timeline. Unfortunately, the timeline change also affected his personal life; unlike in “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” Ryan doesn’t have a wife and daughter in Reverse-Flashpoint.
Barry Allen Was Killed As A Child & Reverse-Flash Is With Iris West
Barry is being blamed for crimes he didn’t commit and can’t remember Joe West’s death in the present because Thawne went back in time to kill The Flash as a child before taking over his life and using his face to make him the villain. Barry’s death means Thawne succeeds in his goal, which is revealed in The Flash season 1. In Reverse-Flashpoint, Iris is also engaged to Thawne, who got the ultimate revenge by not only killing Barry, but stealing his wife and turning him into the villain of the story. Killing Iris wouldn’t have been satisfying for Reverse-Flash because the only way he could take everything from Barry is by getting Iris fall in love with him instead.
Cecile Uses The Psycho-Pirate Mask To Amplify Her Powers
In The Flash season 7, Cecile Horton took the Psycho-Pirate mask because the spirit inside was calling to her. This was after “Crisis on Infinite Earths” and the timeline was rewritten to change the backstory of the mask. However, in the Reverse-Flashpoint timeline, Cecile seems to actively use the Psycho-Pirate mask on a regular basis to amplify her powers; her actions are entirely voluntarily which is a stark contrast to the mask’s previous influence on her. She’s clearly had it for some time and it’s possible the mask helps her out in the field when fighting villains alongside Eobard in the alternate future.
The Legion Of Doom Attacked Team Flash
The Legion of Doom made their Arrowverse debut in Legends of Tomorrow season 2, with their membership consisting of Eobard Thawne, Malcolm Merlyn, and Damien Darhk. Thanks to Reverse-Flashpoint, however, the Legion of Doom were confirmed to have attacked Team Flash at some point prior to 2031. Considering this timeline was instigated by Reverse-Flash, it’s likely he made his own team fight the Legion so he could beat them and come out on top. While the Legion exists in this alternate timeline, it’s unclear who is a part of the team, though it’s possible Damien Darhk is their leader. Whatever the case, it’s a big change to The Flash’s future considering the characters have yet to cross paths with the villainous group.
Batwoman Is Married To Sophie Moore
Love was definitely in the air in The Flash’s “Armageddon, Part 4.” While Ryan Wilder and Sophie Moore are still in their flirting stages in Batwoman season 3, they’re married in the Reverse-Flashpoint future. What’s more, Ryan and Sophie are also thinking about having children and ultimately decide to adopt because Ryan wants to be to a child what her adoptive mother was to her. This future may have been changed when Barry went back to the past, but there are already inklings of Batwoman and Sophie eventually getting together in the present. The future timeline confirms what Batwoman has already hinted, so it’s likely fans will see Ryan and Sophie finally entering into a romantic relationship sooner rather than later.
Alex Danvers Is A Part Of Team Flash
Interestingly enough, Alex Danvers, Supergirl’s sister, seems close with members of Team Flash — close enough to attend Iris West and Eobard Thawne’s pre-wedding party. The Flash doesn’t make mention of Supergirl like it did in “Armageddon, Part 2,” but the way Alex seamlessly fits in with everyone suggests she’s fought alongside them on several occasions. There’s a camaraderie that is apparent in her dynamics with the other characters. This is distinctly different from the Alex in the present timeline who, while being acquaintances with Barry and his team, is far removed from the action in Central City.
The Legends Of Tomorrow, Joe West & Cisco Ramon Are Dead
Thawne turning Barry into the villain means the Scarlet Speedster was accused of killing the Legends of Tomorrow — Sara Lance, Nate Heywood, Ray Palmer, and Nora Darhk were all mentioned — Cisco Ramon, and Joe West, who was already confirmed dead in The Flash’s “Armageddon, Part 2.” It’s likely Reverse-Flash committed the murders while wearing Barry’s face. The Legends being dead in Reverse-Flashpoint makes sense since they are time travelers and Thawne wouldn’t want anyone to revert the timeline back to its original state. Killing Cisco and Joe was simple cruelty because they were two of the closest people to Barry and their deaths were a major blow to The Flash.
Chillblaine Is Working With Team Flash & Dating Killer Frost
Chillblaine was a villain in The Flash season 7 who tried to frame Killer Frost, though she took a romantic liking to him she has yet to get over. In Reverse-Flashpoint, however, Chillblaine is no longer a low-level villain at all but a member of Team Flash. He’s also in a romantic relationship with Frost and has been for quite some time. In “Armageddon, Part 4,” Chillblaine assists Frost, The Atom, and Alex Danvers in their battle against Damien Darhk and seems to be at ease doing so with his colleagues. Chillblaine is close enough to the future team that he’s even invited to attend Iris and Eobard’s party. Considering Frost still has feelings for him in the real timeline, it’s possible Chillblaine will return once more to the show and be redeemed in the back half of The Flash season 8.
