Netflix’s new black comedy retrospective Death to 2020 features numerous celebrities in comedic roles, with an impressive pedigree across even smaller roles. Also, a white social media influencer takes advantage of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and a tech mogul is so inspired by a climate change speech that he decides to permanently live in a survival bunker and wait for the apocalypse. Death to 2020 is inherently bleak, but it pokes fun at how people reacted to cultural trends in a historically chaotic year.

The Death to 2020 cast boasts several of Hollywood’s biggest A-list celebrities, along with up-and-coming stars from movies and television. Brooker himself has a meta, off-camera role as the director, and an Oscar-nominee narrates the 70-minute production. Samuel L. Jackson As Dash Bracket

Samuel L. Jackson headlines the main cast as Dash Bracket, a no-nonsense reporter for “The New Yorkerly News” with a knack for cultural metaphors. He essentially plays a version of Jackson himself, dropping in perfectly measured curses and a faintly bewildered amusement. Jackson is, of course, best known for portraying Nick Fury in the MCU. Leslie Jones portrays Dr. Maggie Gravel, a behavioral therapist who curses on camera and ironically hates all humans. She is one of the feature’s most relatable voices of reason. A former Saturday Night Live cast member, Jones starred as Patty Tolan in Ghostbusters (2016) and voiced Zeta in The Angry Birds Movie 2.

Joe Keery As Duke Goolies

Joe Keery appears as Duke Goolies, an opportunistic “gig economy millennial” who capitalizes upon cultural trends for self-serving reasons, gaining a huge YouTube following for banal reaction videos.
