Introduced in Gen II of the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Eggs have become a staple of both the anime and the games. It’s always a joy to experience the general buzz and excitement that a newly hatched Pokémon can bring. In the games, players can breed their own Pokémon at a Day Care in order to receive an egg, or, alternatively, they can seek out certain NPCs that will gift them a Pokémon Egg.

These eggs can vary in terms of the quality of the Pokémon they contain, but the level will always be low – 5 in the first three Gens and then 1 in every Gen since. While the eggs take time to hatch, this can be done with a few minutes of dedicated walking or cycling around. If the player isn’t in a rush, they can just hatch naturally as the player goes about the game as normal.

The Gen II remakes, HeartGold & SoulSilver, gave players a unique way of obtaining eggs as a gift – by talking to a man called Primo located in Violet City’s Gym. Primo may be recognized for his appearances in LeafGreen & FireRed as the Poké Dude who helps out with tutorials on Teachy TV.

In the Gen II remakes, however, he can give the player gifts depending on the selection of words that they say to him using the easy chat system and finding a combination that differs for every Trainer’s ID. Through this, eight PC wallpapers can be obtained, or three different Pokémon Eggs, containing Wooper, Mareep, or Slugma. None of them are that special, but it is hard to complain about receiving free Pokémon.

Although Wobbuffet was introduced in Gen II, its pre-evolved form, Wynaut, joined the franchise in Gen III with Ruby & Sapphire. Players could obtain a Wynaut as an Egg Gift from an elderly woman standing outside the springs in Lavaridge Town.

Despite not being the most desirable Pokémon to use in battle, Wobbuffet especially has proven to be a useful team member when used correctly, with its frustrating moves Mirror Coat and Counter able to strike fear into any opponent, often forcing them to change their strategy.

Special events have been introduced to Pokémon games, and with the Japanese version of Pokémon Crystal, there was one such event that gave players the chance to obtain the Odd Egg as a gift. However, for Western players, the process was streamlined and simplified to simply collecting it from the Day Care man.

The Odd Egg gave players the chance to get one of the newly introduced baby Pokémon to Gen II – Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Tyrogue, Smoochum, Elekid, or Magby. There was generally a boosted chance of obtaining a Shiny version of these Pokémon, with them each knowing the Egg Move Dizzy Punch.

One of the most commonly gifted Egg Pokémon in the games is Togepi, which makes sense considering that its popular debut during the Kanto series of the anime made it the first Pokémon to hatch from an egg. Togepi Eggs are gifted to the player in Gens II & IV, and the remakes of Gens I & III.

However, with Togepi’s final evolution, Togekiss, not being introduced until Gen IV with Diamond & Pearl, it isn’t the most desirable Pokémon in prior generations. This is mainly due to the Fairy-type not being introduced until Gen VI, making these versions of Togepi and Togetic, Normal and dual Normal-Flying respectively.

When holding an Oval Stone, a Happiny can evolve into Chansey, a Pokémon known for its healing capabilities and its general bulk. With enough friendship, it can evolve further into Blissey, which can be often be overlooked despite being a powerhouse. Blissey is an exciting prospect for any team due to its diverse move-pool, bulky HP, and generally impressive Special Defense.

3 Getting A Larvesta For Free Is Incredible Given That It Evolves Into Volcarona

The only Egg Pokémon to be received as a gift in Black & White happens to be a potentially game-changing one considering its evolved form. The dual Bug & Fire-type Larvesta can be received from a Pokémon Ranger at the rest house on Route 18, and with considerable love, time, and effort, this Pokémon will evolve into the mighty Volcarona.

Considering the fact the player can potentially have a Volcarona from a free egg received as a gift, this can be considered a fantastic addition to any team, despite the time and effort required to raise it. Volcarona has exceptional base Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, and can have a diverse move-pool.

2 Eevee Is The Most Commonly Gifted Pokémon But Is Also Given In Egg Form In Gen VII

Eevee is considered to be one of the best Gift Pokémon available in the games, with plenty of games offering players the chance to receive one for free. However, in Sun & Moon and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, players can receive Eevee in its egg form, meaning that it needs to be hatched before it can be used in battle.

The egg is given to the player by a Pokémon Breeder at the Paniola Ranch and can become a valuable team member once leveled up, especially given the diverse choice of Eeveelutions on offer.

The Gen IV games give the player opportunities to receive two or three Egg Pokémon as gifts, with Togepi in Platinum, Happiny in Diamond & Pearl, and Riolu in all of the games. The Riolu Egg can be obtained after the player helps Riley clear Iron Island of Team Galactic, with it being a gift of thanks.

Riolu is an exciting Pokémon to receive as it evolves into one of the most popular and powerful species in the entire franchise, Lucario. As a dual Fighting and Steel-type, Lucario’s physical and special offense makes it a formidable opponent for any Pokémon, with it having eight different resistances and only three super-effective weaknesses.
