The Green Lantern Corps has one of the strongest weapons in the universe, but every single one of them would lose to a character with one of the lamest powers in all of DC Comics: The Color Kid. This odd character has a seemingly useless power that would utterly ruin every single Green Lantern ring bearer’s day, regardless of their training or power level. A gimmick character at best, the Color Kid proves that even a D-list character should never be underestimated.

The Green Lantern Corps has changed wildly since its comics debut in 1940. Alan Scott, the first Green Lantern, had magic-based powers which were later subject to a massive retcon in 1959: the Green Lanterns were now an organization of intergalactic space police, befitting the space craze of the 60s. Everything about the Green Lanterns was radically changed…including their major weakness. Whereas Alan Scott’s weakness was wood, Hal Jordan’s ring (and the ring of every subsequent Green Lantern) could not affect the color yellow. The Lanterns trained extensively to get around the weakness…but they would’ve met their match against the Color Kid

An alien from the planet Lupra, Ulu Vakk was a young laboratory assistant researching the nature of energy when he was struck by an intense beam of light from another dimension. This surge of power granted him the ability to change the frequency and wavelength of any object or creature; in short, he could change the color of anything or anyone he wished. Traveling to Earth, he attempted to join the Legion of Superheroes but was quickly denied…because Color Kid’s powers were deemed utterly useless in a fight.

However, against the Green Lantern Corps, the Color Kid could turn all objects on the battlefield yellow, rendering the Power Rings of each Lantern useless – and he could even turn the rings themselves yellow, creating Yellow Lanterns like Sinestro. Working on a microscopic scale, he can project black beams of light directly into the eyes of the Lanterns, rendering them blind. Alternatively, if the Color Kid was made a Lantern, he could use his natural power to turn any yellow-colored object into any other color, removing the major weakness of the ring. This one rarely-seen character has the power to either hurt or hinder the Corps like none other.

The Color Kid is one of many zany villains of the 1960s who was quickly forgotten by writers in favor of more “serious” threats once the decade had passed and comics entered the Bronze Age. The Green Lanterns, for their part, encountered their share of villains who capitalized on their weakness to the color yellow (most notably Batman in Frank Miller’s infamous All-Star Batman and Robin). Luckily for them, the yellow weakness was purged long ago. Nevertheless, the Color Kid proves that the inanity of the Silver Age mustn’t be discounted, even from an organization as powerful as the Green Lantern Corps
