Every Legend Of Zelda Item Spell & Armor That Reflects Magic

The Legend of Zelda series has always had a focus on mystical artifacts capable of strange powers, and each game has its own collection of these items. Link uses the master sword to reflect magic back at his enemies at multiple points throughout the timeline, but he’s got plenty of other tools to help him keep dark magic at bay. Throughout the series, there are eight items in particular that help Link defend himself against the dark magic he encounters.

One of the most popular secrets in the Zelda series is that Link can reflect Ganon’s magic orbs back at him with items unintended for combat. In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, it’s possible to smack Agahnim’s energy orbs back at him using the Bug-Catching Net, and in Ocarina of Time, Empty Bottles can be used to do the same against both Ganondorf and Phantom Ganon. It’s even possible to do this trick in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker against Phantom Ganon. There’s not really any explanation as to why these tricks work from a lore perspective, but they’ve brought amusement to dozens of fans throughout the years.

The most obvious reflective tool Link has in his arsenal besides the Master Sword is the Mirror Shield, which has appeared in many Zelda titles. In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the Mirror Shield can be used to reflect Twinrova’s fire and ice beams back at her, and it’s even capable of storing energy within itself to unleash a massive fire or ice attack. Games like The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker use the Mirror Shield to reflect light, and it can be used to reflect giant beams of energy in A Link to the Past. The Cane of Byrna and the Magic Cape are also found in A Link to the Past, and both are capable of protecting Link from taking any damage as long as he has some magic to spare.

The Legend Of Zelda’s Magic Spells & Armor

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link can learn spells based on the three goddesses from great fairies hidden throughout Hyrule, and one of these, Nayru’s Love, is one of the most powerful items in the game. Casting this spell will place a large blue barrier around Link and he will be invincible for an extended period of time. It’s one of the most powerful versions of invincibility in The Legend of Zelda series because it has a fixed magic cost and doesn’t deplete much of his magic meter, especially when compared to other similar items in the series.

In Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Link can claim the Magic Armor, which has a very similar effect to Nayru’s Love. In The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, wearing the armor drains Link’s magic meter rapidly, and in Twilight Princess the armor costs rupees just to wear. If Link gets hit, he won’t take damage, but he will lose a massive amount of cash in exchange. Once he has completely run out of cash, the defensive properties of the armor will fade and its weight will reach unwearable margins of heavy.

Breath of the Wild introduced mechanical guardians, as well as Shiekah technology capable of resisting them. The Guardian Shields are the equivalent of a shield lightsaber, and are capable of deflecting giant energy beams with ease. Their main purpose is to defend against the guardians and their devastating attacks which makes them very useful shields in Breath of the Wild. From the bug-catching net & empty bottles to magic armor and the love of a goddess, many of these items are entirely skippable in each of these games, but any The Legend of Zelda veteran will agree that these eight items (and knowing how to use them properly) make the titles much easier to complete.
