Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, releasing on December 16th, 2021, will feature a few familiar characters from previous games. The October PlayStation State of Play included a trailer for the new FNAF game where characters like Vanny and Music Man could be seen. Along with these returning characters, there will also be a cast of new animatronics such as Montgomery Gator, Moondrop, and the S.T.A.F.F. Bots. The titular character, Freddy Fazbear, will also be making an appearance as a new Glamrock iteration.

Including characters from previous games links Security Breach to its predecessors and continues the lore surrounding them. The most notable returning character is Vanny, a human who dons an eerie rabbit suit and mindlessly follows the orders of Glitchtrap. Vanny is featured throughout the new Security Breach trailer, so she will likely be a main antagonist in the game. Other returning characters that were shown include versions of Music Man and Nightmarionne. Vanessa, the human security guard, appears to be the game’s main protagonist and has been featured in a previous game through email communications.

The returning characters come from a few different games, and some of their appearances, like the Nightmarionne and Music Man, are different than their previous iterations. Due to the larger map and vastly different setting in FNAF: Security Breach, it’s unclear if these characters will behave the same way. The only returning protagonist is Vanessa, who has not previously existed as a physical character. However, her personality, and some important facts surrounding her, have been revealed, so she is worth getting to know before playing Security Breach.

Five Night’s at Freddy’s: Security Breach – Vanessa

Vanessa A. is the guard featured in Security Breach. She was previously identified as a Security Representative at Fazzbear Entertainment in the Special Delivery game. Fans have theorized that Vanessa and Vanny are connected in some way, or could be the same person, but this is not confirmed by the developers. In one email communication regarding employee birthdays, Vanessa had requested a bunny-shaped birthday cake, which supports her connection to FNAF: Security Breach’s character, Vanny, who wears a bunny costume. Other emails in the game also reveal that she is sometimes bright, bubbly, and talkative, while other times she is unresponsive and searches for red-flagged phrases on her work computer.

The emails in Special Delivery refer to Vanessa as Ness, and they become increasingly disturbing as Luis C. tries to help her and get to the bottom of her faking IT credentials to upload a data packet flagged as a virus. Luis C. comments on how Vanessa’s personality seems to change from day to day, and she also has some questionable search history regarding lifelike rubber masks and how to make humans compliant. Regardless of whether or not Vanessa and Vanny are connected, it’s clear this security guard’s role in FNAF: Security Breach raises some cause for concern.

Vanny, also referred to as the Reluctant Follower, is a human in a white bunny suit who follows the orders of Glitchtrap. She is another returning character that was not technically seen in a FNAF game, however, she was alluded to in FNAF VR: Help Wanted. At the end of the VR game, Glitchtrap tries to possess the protagonist and gains influence over her as a voice in her head. Her bunny mask can also be found in the corn maze, and her voice is heard through it. Glitchtrap’s influence, and the emails in Special Delivery, are the biggest reasons for the theory that Vanny and Vanessa are one and the same.

Vanny appears to be one of the biggest antagonists going after Gregory in Security Breach. She’s shown throughout the trailer creepily skipping towards the player and peeking around corners. Since she is a brainwashed human being controlled, it is likely that Glitchtrap will also be involved in Security Breach in some way. So far, he has not been mentioned in any official release or shown definitively in a trailer, but his connection to Vanny makes him a potential antagonist. It’s also speculated by fans that the charred, damaged hand in the first game trailer belongs to Glitchtrap.

Five Night’s at Freddy’s: Security Breach – Music Man

Originally appearing in Freddy Fazzbear’s Pizzeria Simulator, Music Man is a sound-sensitive animatronic that crashes his cymbals with increasing speed and sound until finally jump scaring the player. Traditionally, to keep him calm, players need to be quiet and keep noise levels down. In Security Breach, the franchise’s first AAA title, Music Man is much larger and his cymbals are gone, so his mechanics may have changed completely. However, it’s possible the size of the map caused the appearance change so that this animatronic can function better, and it’s likely that he is still triggered by sound. Music Man is seen only briefly in the new trailer, so his true involvement in the game is still unknown.

Five Night’s at Freddy’s: Security Breach – Nightmarionne

The Puppet, or Marionette, is another animatronic that seems to be making an appearance in Security Breach based on the newest trailer. Unlike previous versions, it may appear in groups that resemble the Nightmarionne, a scary nightmare version of Puppet from FNAF 4’s Halloween update. Although these animatronics also appear similar to the S.T.A.F.F. Bots, the Nightmarionne is clearly alluded to through the familiar facial aesthetics, particularly the grinning mouth and the tears under their eyes.

In the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise’s other games, the Nightmarionne version of the Puppet can appear on the player’s screen and leave them vulnerable to attacks from other animatronics. In some games, players need to move their pointer away from the animatronic, and in other iterations, the door needs to be closed to keep the Nightmarionne away. Due to the open nature of Security Breach, and the player’s ability to explore, the Nightmarionne’s function will likely be drastically altered.

Along with these recurring characters, there will be a group of Glamrock animatronics. There are theories regarding their true identities and connections to Afton family members, but these are so far unconfirmed. The fearsome villains in Security Breach, which includes FNAF’s Freddy Fazzbear, will do everything they can to make surviving until morning and escaping a near-impossible task. Unlike previous FNAF games, players won’t be stationary, but that may make it more difficult to track the various antagonists in this much larger setting. Becoming familiar with the mechanics of the returning cast may help players get ready for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach.
