Every Song In Netflixs The Witcher

Netflix’s new fantasy series The Witcher is full of tales of war, magic, and monsters, and it also has some suitably epic ballads about all of those things. The show stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a mutant monster-slayer for hire, who has his own personal hype man called Jaskier (Joey Batey), a self-described “humble bard” who writes songs about Geralt’s adventures.

The music for The Witcher was composed by Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli, who previously collaborated on other TV shows like The Mist and The Romanoffs. While Netflix has yet to officially release the soundtrack, the songs are available to listen to online. These include Jaskier’s signature song “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher,” which he composes after his first outing with Geralt, as well as other tracks like “The Last Rose Of Cintra” and “Geralt Of Rivia.”

If you love the music of The Witcher and want to listen to it again, here are the songs from the series that have been made available so far, and a guide to which episodes they appear in.

Geralt Of Rivia

This is the main theme of The Witcher. It plays during the opening titles of the show and recurs throughout the series.

The End’s Beginning

This song plays during the end credits of The Witcher’s first episode, “The End’s Beginning.”

Toss A Coin To Your Witcher

“Toss A Coin To Your Witcher” is Jaskier’s account of his first encounter with Geralt, when the two of them went into the mountains to search for a “devil” that had been stealing grain. The devil turns out to be a Sylvan who has been stealing food for the elves hiding out in the mountains. Though Jaskier’s song paints a picture of Geralt defeating the elves, they actually knock him out and hold him captive – only later deciding to set him and Jaskier free. You can hear the first instance of the song at the end of episode 2, “Four Marks.”

The Last Rose of Cintra

Sung by Irish musician Declan de Barra, “The Last Rose Of Cintra” plays at the end of episode 5, “Bottled Appetites,” and describes the dangerous situation that Ciri finds herself in after fleeing Cintra. Notably, the lyrics contain the phrase, “the time of ax and sword is nigh,” which echoes a prophecy that Ciri makes later in the series.

Her Sweet Kiss

Jaskier is ever the romantic, but he also loves drama, and his ballad “Her Sweet Kiss” has a bit of both. Taken from episode 6, “Rare Species,” the song refers to the troubled relationship between Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Vengerberg, who are reunited in the episode when they join the hunt for a dragon.

The Song Of The White Wolf

The final song of the season, “The Song Of The White Wolf,” plays during the credits of episode 8, “Much More.” This was also sung by Declan de Barra, and is about Geralt (whose nickname is “The White Wolf”), warning the listener against getting too close to him. There’s an irony in the lyrics, which are about how Geralt’s heart is cold and he is bound to a lonely life – something that is contradicted by the ending of the season.

Other Songs in The Witcher Season 1

According to Belousova, she and Ostinelli wrote seven songs in total for The Witcher season 1, though only the six above have so far been released in full. There are also a couple of shorter songs featured in the show, which we get an extended release later:

  • Untitled Posada Tavern Song – Jaskier attempts to sing a song in Upper Posada’s tavern, warning of local perils, in episode 2, “For Marks.” He is interrupted by flying bread.
  • The Fishmonger’s Daughter – A filthy little ditty that Jaskier sings at a banquet in episode 4, “Of Banquets, Bastards and Burials.”

Hopefully Netflix will release the full OST for The Witcher season 1 soon. At the very least, we can look forward to more epic ballads when The Witcher returns for season 2 in 2021.
