Every Upcoming Jared Leto Movie & Show

Here is every upcoming movie and TV show that Jared Leto is confirmed to appear in. Raised in a community of artists, the Oscar-winning actor has been in touch with his creative side since he was a child, and boasts a lengthy list of acting, directing and producing credits. After his breakthrough performance as Jordan Catalano in the teen drama My So-Called Life, Leto made his theatrical debut in Jocelyn Moorhouse’s How to Make an American Quilt. His performance as the titular character in the biographical film Prefontaine was also well-received, landing him supporting roles in Fight Club, Girl, Interrupted, and American Psycho.

Leto is well known for committing to rather extreme means of preparation for his acting roles. As Harry Goldfarb in Requiem for a Dream, the actor lived on the streets of New York with a group of heroin addicts, starved himself, and avoided having sexual relations in order to manifest his real-life cravings on-screen. As Mark David Chapmann—the infamous killer of Beatles member John Lennon—in the film Chapter 27, Leto rapidly gained more than 60 pounds, resulting in him having to use a wheelchair due to contracting gout. Leto embodied the Joker in the DCEU’s Suicide Squad to the point where he reportedly terrorized his fellow cast members and crew on set.

He also appeared in the neo-noir film The Little Things as Albert Sparma and received Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations. Despite his numerous accolades, it seems like Leto has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Here’s all 5 movies and shows that Jared Leto is currently scheduled to appear in, in 2021 and beyond.

Scheduled for a theatrical release on November 24, 2021, Ridley Scott’s biographical crime drama House of Gucci explores the events of Maurizio Gucci’s (Adam Driver) murder at the hands of his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga). Leto plays Maurizio’s cousin Paolo Gucci, the company’s chief designer and vice-president in the 1960s, who was hired and later fired by his father and uncle. For this role, Leto has to once again drastically transform himself and disappear into the character—this time with a bald head, body prosthetics, and flashy designer clothes. The film also stars Salma Hayek as Pina Auriemma, who allegedly arranged the real-life killing, and Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci, former chairman and the oldest son of company founder Guccio Gucci.

Morbius (2022)

Set in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, Morbius is finally slated for release on January 28, 2022, after more than two years of delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although Leto has been rumored to play the Marvel character for quite some time, he only accepted the part after meeting with director Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) about his vision for what the film will look like. Here, Leto becomes the flawed antihero Michael Morbius, who acquires superhuman powers and abilities and an uncanny thirst for blood after self-testing a cure for his rare disease. He is joined by former Doctor Who lead Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Some have even speculated that Sony’s Morbius could led to a Sinister Six project down the road, potentially setting Leto up to return.

Adrift (TBA)

Every Upcoming Jared Leto Movie & Show

After more than 20 years Jared Leto is reuniting with Requiem for a Dream director Darren Aronofsky for the horror production Adrift. Based on the short story by Ring author Koji Suzuki, the film deals with an abandoned yacht still sending out a distress call. The crew of a fishing boat agrees to tow it into port, and Leto’s character—presumably—finds a logbook detailing what happened to the yacht’s passengers. Reportedly, it has taken Leto more than a decade after encountering Suzuki’s story just to land the production rights. Although there is no confirmation on when production will officially begin, the tag team of Leto and Aronofsky reuniting on the big screen makes Adrift one to keep an eye on.

Tron 3 (TBA)

More than a decade after the release of Joseph Kosinski’s Tron: Legacy, an untitled Tron 3 film—reporetedly not a direct sequel, but also not a reboot—is now in the works. In August 2020, it was announced that Australian filmmaker Garth Davis will direct the project, with Leto confirming his role as well. In a now-deleted tweet, the actor even accidentally revealed a potential title in “Tron: Ares”, which may even be a reference to the name of his character. Jared Leto has expressed his excitement in working on the film, citing the impact of the original 1982 film by Steven Lisberger, as well as the classic video game, on his childhood and career.
