FromSoftware fans have been eagerly awaiting footage of the studio’s latest project, Elden Ring, and it finally delivered just that during Sumer Games Fest 2021. It seems to be a cumulation of everything that has made the Dark Souls games so compelling alongside some new and interesting ideas. Players still explore a twisted medieval fantasy world with a multitude of weapons at one’s disposal so it’ll be interesting to see just how many weapons exist in the final game. For now, here’s a list of the weapons shown off in Elden Ring’s trailer.
Dark Souls has followed a similar structure to lots of RPGs in which players create their own characters that play according to their personal style. Some players will prefer to stay back and blast their foes with magic beams and projectiles, and others might want to wield weak yet fast melee weapons. Some might even find the idea of smashing Dark Souls’ bosses with a giant log or dragon’s tooth rather compelling. It’s a major part of what makes the games so replayable, since there’s always a new way to approach situations depending on how one creates their build.
Since Elden Ring takes place in a seemingly medieval world, there are certain weapons that are bound to show up. Countless shots in the trailer show the protagonist wielding a classic straight sword and a shield, which has been a staple of the Dark Souls games. Likewise, there’s going to be an option to brandish large swords like the claymore that can deal considerable damage with slightly slower swings. The trailer also showed the classic bow (with what appeared to be fire arrows) and what looked like a mage staff with magic spells for those who like projectiles, but due to the trailer’s many cuts, a host of different weapons can be seen in its scant three minutes.
Elden Ring Has Loads Of Weapon Types Already
Classic swords and shields might be the way to go for some, but there are many players who prefer alternative styles of fighting. There are two scenes that show a player character wielding dual blades, which will likely make for fast, high-risk options in Elden Ring’s multiplayer. On the opposite end of the spectrum, a player character wields a giant hammer, perfect for people who favor strength builds. The protagonist was also depicted wielding whips, lances, and even torches in the gameplay trailer, alongside a few more interesting ones. In one scene, a longsword is held aloft as blue energy channels through it, in another, an ice wand casts dazzling magic, and in yet another, a hero attacks with what looks like a spear or lance tipped with a large crystal, each swing leaving menacing trails as it cuts down a royal cadre.
Since Elden Ring is set in a larger world than the previous FromSoftware entries, it’s fair to say that there will be loads of other weapons for people to use. Each game in the series had multiple weapons per weapon class and that’s likely to be the case here as well. Perhaps Elden Ring will introduce brand new weapon classes that weren’t available in the previous games. What’s for certain is that Elden Ring players will have no shortage of options when building their characters come this January.
