Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 5 comes out swinging with a plethora of new content to keep players having some fun in the shade. Escape the heatwaves and kick back with new weapons, multiplayer maps, and modes that spice up the typical routine of quick matches.

As we get closer to the Fall, some players worried about a decline in quality in terms of content updates, as the annual release of a new Call Of Duty draws near. However, it seems that Infinity Ward is still putting the maximum effort in their content updates to ensure the growing community gets the most out of their experience. Who knows what future content updates will look like when the next Call of Duty releases, but for the time being, we can enjoy some new additions and cross that bridge when we get there. This breakdown will go over playlist and map updates.

Multiplayer Playlist & Map Updates

The first batch of changes may please Ground War players, as the Verdansk international airport is being added into the rotation of ground war. Likewise, two new maps are coming to Modern Warfare in the form of Petrov Oil Rig and Suldal Harbor. Modern Warfare 3 players may feel a familiar sense of deja vu as Petrov Oil Rig seems to pay homage to the map Off Shore. Oil rig focuses on mid-range combat, with open space, while Suldal Harbor has more corridors and choke points that will force everyone to check their corners.

On the playlist side, Blueprint Gunfight is coming back again to provide some liveliness to the tense game mode hopefully, or just find new ways to have players rage at getting steamrolled by sweats. Search and Destroy Double Down is one of the more interesting new game modes being added into the rotation. This new Search and Destroy takes the beloved classic mode and simply makes it a 12 v 12 mode, that can truly make those clutch moments of defusing the bomb, or solo team wipes even more rewarding. Probably, going to lead to a lot more killstreak hoarding in the later rounds, but the frustration that search creates is only part of its charm. If you want to escape killstreak spam, then the Bare Bones playlist has got you covered, with a rotation of game modes with no killstreaks, field upgrades, or perks. All you got is your reaction time and map knowledge.

Warzone Playlist & Map Updates

The most significant changes to Warzone include some new map changes that open up Verdansk and make escaping the gas even more hectic than before. The stadium is getting a new look, with the roof collapsing and exposing the spacious interior. No longer will snipers be able to camp on the roof for long periods. Need a new way to get around and can’t find a vehicle? No worries, because the Verdansk Train station is fully operational with a new train that goes across the map. Players can take the train to various hotspots for some strategic looting, or wait for a train to roll up to a station and rob unsuspecting players.

A significant change for traversing Verrdansk also comes in the form of new zip lines. Now players can find vertical zip lines near tall structures that help players get quick access to rooftops and take out pesky snipers. While the high ground is usually king, these new zip lines level the playing field, and snipers should not underestimate their power. As far as game modes are concerned, players have access to a new Mini Royale mode that brings all the fun of the standard mode with a reduced player count. If you want to get some kills in Verdansk, but are strapped for time, this new game mode is perfect. There is also the new addition of supply drops carrying Juggernaut suits in Warzone, similar to fire sale events. This unique event has received some pushback from fans, but it seems like it is here to stay since the drop is relatively rare.

Gun Balance & General Fixes

Players clamoring for a weapon inspect feature rejoice! On console, players can hold the left directional pad button, or on PC, the default bound key should be “I,” and you can inspect your weapon. Recently an exploit for unlimited ammo was being used by players, but this has been squashed for the time being.

A surprisingly and hugely welcomed fix is stopping power rounds being preserved on dropped weapons. There are countless stories of players dropping their guns with stopping power rounds by accident only to reequip it and lose the precious upgrade. Hopefully, this can help some players make some clutch plays in Warzone. For Warzone there are new damage range buffs for semi-auto rifles and the FR 5.56. Moreover, the Most Wanted contract is getting a much-needed upgrade with the ability to now respawn players in the gulag, and make the contract worthwhile.

Players relying on their heartbeat sensor in Warzone can rest easy with a fix that fixes the issue of false pings. In regards to the new juggernaut crates in Warzone, players can take some comfort in knowing that the spawn rate has been somewhat nerfed.

The future of Warzone looks bright as Infinity Ward keeps listening to fan feedback, and continually adds new content to keep the game fresh. Hopefully, this dedication continues long into the forthcoming seasons and makes the transitional period to the new Call of Duty title easier for some players.
