January 15 sees the release of The Frontier – a massive mod for Fallout: New Vegas that’s been in development for over seven years. To access the new content, you’ll need 35GB of available storage space along with copies of New Vegas and its DLC.

According to the developer, The Frontier features new mechanics like drivable vehicles, incredible scripting, and visual effects that will impress even the oldest fans of the series. All of this is wrapped up with quality voice acting, numerous side quests, and hundreds of new characters.

It’s hard to understate just how much content is packed into this fan-made creation. Three distinct quest lines – each totaling up to 15+ hours – a brand-new driving system, more than 150 new weapons, and a massive city to explore in the form of post-apocalyptic Portland are just the tip of the iceberg. It all looks surprisingly good, too, considering it was developed for a game released over a decade ago.

The mod is already listed on Steam – head over to its official store page to learn more about the project and how to properly install it.

Fallout: New Vegas remains one of the best entries in the series, thanks to its witty writing and dedication to a player-driven narrative. It looks like The Frontier stays true to that formula while bringing new and exciting content that should keep players busy until the next official Fallout title is announced.

If multiplayer is more your speed, you can always check out Fallout 76. The MMO is in a much better place than it was at launch, thanks to constant updates and expansions to address its various issues. Just make sure you don’t join up with the Free States Militia group – otherwise, you might see your Facebook profile suspended.

The Frontier will be available on January 15. It’s a free download, although you’ll need to own a copy of Fallout: New Vegas and subsequent DLC.
