Fallout: The Frontier mod recently announced its long-awaited Steam page is now live, signifying it’s one step closer towards its impending release date. The initial Steam announcement was released back in June of this year, and Fallout: New Vegas fans have been anxiously waiting for it to happen since.

ICYMI, The Frontier is a huge DLC-sized mod for Fallout: New Vegas that moves the setting from Vegas to way up north to Portland, Oregon. The former City of Roses has become a frozen wasteland, with a war of control being fought here between the NCR and The Legion. You’ll be faced with the crucial task of surviving in the harsh cold and snow, having to watch out for NCR and Legion skirmishes, as well as being wary of the threats from local scavengers and slavers.

The June 27 FAQ Developer Update video posted on the mod’s YouTube channel explains what the Steam page means for the FNV community, and how the process of playing the mod will work. Having The Frontier available as a Steam release means players who aren’t quite comfortable dealing with game mods can download and play it with relative ease. It’s also noted the mod is not a stand-alone release, as that would have required the mod team to add in a lot of vanilla assets, which would have in turn increased the time and overhead for the project. So, you will need to have Fallout: New Vegas (of course), as well as all four official DLCs – Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Dead Money, and Lonesome Road.

The Frontier Steam release and The Nexus release will both be entirely free. A Mod DB release is being debated, but not currently a part of the release plan (though the mod does have an info page there). You can support the development directly with donations via the website and Patreon, and any money left over once development ends will be donated to charities.

The dev update video continues with info regarding Bethesda’s role in the mod’s development, the size of the mod, more info on the Nexus release, and much more.
