A dog that can write and talk would scare anyone in real life but in the world of Family Guy, Brian Griffin is very much at home. The anthropomorphic white dog might not be the funniest character in the animated sitcom but he is the most sane, often making decisions based on logic while everyone else is driven by impulse.

Brian’s popularity became clear when he was killed off in Season 12’s “Life of Brian.” The fan backlash was so severe that he had to bought back a few episodes later. The explanation? Stewie had traveled back in time to save him. Here are a couple of Brian facts that viewers might not be aware of.

10 He Is Seth MacFarlane’s Favorite Character

Series creator Seth MacFarlane revealed that Brian Griffin is his favorite character in the show. He also has a picture of the fictional dog on his office door.

Brian is also the only Family Guy character for which MacFarlane uses his real speaking voice. MacFarlane normally has to alter his voice while voicing Glenn Quagmire, Peter Griffin, and Stewie Griffin. However, his favorite character to voice is Tom Tucker, the anchorman for Quahog 5 News.

9 The Car He Drives

Dogs can drive too in Family Guy and Brian moves around town in a 2004 Toyota Prius. He is first seen driving the car in Season 7’s ninth episode titled “The Juice Is Loose.”

He pulls up on the driveway of the Griffin home to try and rescue Stewie who happens to be stuck on the roof. The car’s license plate reads “BRI-D0G.” The bumper stick also has a sticker on it which reads ‘Kucinich 04.’ Brian is seen driving the car again in the eighth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth seasons.

Family Guy and American Dad! were both created by Seth MacFarlane. It thus didn’t come as a surprise when it was revealed that the two shows are set in the same universe.

Brian is the first character to make an appearance in American Dad!. He pops up in the seventh episode of Season 6 titled “The People vs. Martin Sugar.” In the episode, Stan ranks Brian in first place in his list of top ten fictional dogs. Brian is then seen sipping a martini outside a courthouse where he claims that Stan is fictional too. Stan is angered by the claim and lambasts him.

7 Number Of Jobs He Has Had

Apart from being a struggling writer and journalist, Brian has had multiple other jobs. While living in Los Angeles, Brian works as a waiter, a car wash attendant, a pornographic film director, and a screenwriter. In Quahog, he has a brief spell as a substitute teacher at Buddy Cianci Junior High School. He also drives a taxi before moving on to work for the Quahog PD as a sniffer dog.

Brian is forced to leave the police force after his cocaine addiction, that he got from frequent drug-sniffing for work, impairs his judgment. He is still portrayed as a well-off dog as he is able to afford a nice car. He also pays all his bills.

6 His Twitter Account

Brian loves social media. In Season 16’s sixth episode titled “The D in Apartment 23,” it is revealed that his Twitter handle is “@d0gbackwards.” This is an actual Twitter account that has been in existence since 2016.

In the episode, Brian’s tweets make him popular on the social media platform but he makes the mistake of tweeting something that’s racially insensitive. As soon as he leaves a theater, he finds an angry mob waiting for him. The mob chases him home but due to the heat he has brought, and Lois asks him to find another place to stay.

5 How He Became A Griffin

How exactly did Brian acquire the Griffin family name? In the seventh episode of the series titled “Brian: Portrait Of A Dog”, an explanation is given. Apparently, Peter found him wandering around and took him in to stay with his family in Quahog.

However, there is contradicting information in Season 7’s fifth episode titled “The Man With Two Brians.” In the episode, Brian shows the family a couple of videos of him as a little puppy, and in them, he is already in the Griffin home. In Season 18’s eleventh episode titled “Short Cuts,” the story of him being adopted is reiterated. While being adopted, Brian apparently left a friend named Shredder behind. The friend has been mad at him ever since.

4 His Political Alignment

In the pilot episode, Brian says that he hates politics and he generally doesn’t vote. The reason for him not voting isn’t revealed. It might be due to the fact that only humans are allowed to do so, or that he is not above the age of 18.

However, in the seventeenth episode of Season 8 titled “Brian & Stewie,” Brian says that he voted for John McCain. Perhaps by this time, he is old enough to vote.

3 He Only Sees Black And White

Real-life dogs have dichromatic vision, which means they can only discern blue and yellow. Unfortunately, Brian only sees black and white. He confirms this in Season 2’s thirteenth episode titled “Road to Rhode Island.”

Despite the fact that Brian mostly behaves as a human, he exhibits several dog traits too. For example, he prefers to clean himself by licking parts of his body with his tongue instead of taking a bath and enjoys scratching at fleas with his hind leg. He also defecates outside the house.

2 The Identity Of His Real Parents

Brian is the son of two normal dogs named Coco and Biscuit. Unlike him, his parents never speak. In Season 4’s second episode titled “Fast Times at Buddy Cianci Jr. High,” Chris Griffin states that Brian’s dad was called Coco. He died after being hit by a truck.

In Season 11’s thirteenth episode titled “Chris Cross,” Brian’s mother Biscuit was seen nurturing her five puppies courtesy of a flashback scene. She gave Brian away at a young age so that he could have a better life away from the puppy mill in Houston Texas where he was born.

1 High Intellect

Brian is more intelligent than most human characters on the show. He has invested heavily in the stock market and is able to keep up with IPOs. The returns from his investments enable him to live comfortably even when he is not working. He also enjoys artistic things such as opera and fine art. He is a big fan of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s works too.

Brian has also been spotted collecting first editions of literary classics. He has shown mastery in musical instruments such as the guitar, the keytar, and drums. His ability to be logical at all times has affected his relationships since he keeps pointing out his partners’ mistakes all the time and suggesting theoretical solutions.
