10 Season 11: Yug Ylimaf

Some of Family Guy’s best episodes come from Stewie and Brian’s various zany exploits. In this particular adventure, Brian accidentally messes with the flow of time, causing events to move backward. In the ensuing chaos, Stewie’s very existence is threatened.

This iconic episode featured enough reversed-time antics to make Tenet jealous and plenty of “wibbly-wobbly” time travel logic that is best not to think too deeply about. Fans will appreciate how the show plays with its running gags in this installment, including reversed cutaways, which occur before the transitionary line.

9 Season 12: Christmas Guy

The culmination of one of Family Guy’s most talked-about storylines, this Christmas episode finally brings Brian back to life after his untimely demise several episodes earlier. It also features a storyline about Peter bringing the holiday spirit to a disillusioned Carter.

The episode opens by poking fun at the concept of television crossovers, noting that they’re definitely never for “monetary purposes.” There also comes a veiled debate on the merit of “cheap copies” that is definitely about beer, not about animated series. In the end, after a series of spats, the families go their separate ways.

7 Season 14: A Lot Going On Upstairs

In an episode that truly involves “a lot going on upstairs,” Peter and Stewie go on individual adventures in the upstairs regions of the Griffin house, as Stewie tries to overcome the fears of his nightmares and Peter builds a man cave in the attic.

This episode delivers some of the best of Family Guy’s distinctive satirical funny bone as it takes jabs at various sources of existential dread, with Brian navigating Stewie’s dreamscape. The addition of Peter’s incredible overreaction to being locked in the attic adds some extra levity to the episode.

6 Season 15: Passenger Fatty-Seven

In a hilarious and thrilling parody of Wesley Snipes’s 1992 action thriller Passenger 57, this episode depicts the adventures of Peter and the guys when their homebound plane is hijacked by a group of vaguely European terrorists, leaving them to fight for their lives.

Peter, Joe, Cleveland, and Quagmire all attempt to save their plane from the occupying terrorists, poking fun at several tropes from hijacking films, with Joe and Cleveland’s struggle to find the right catchphrase being a highlight. This episode also features a fun Golden Girls parody, as Lois and her friends imagine what life would be like should their husbands not return.

5 Season 16: The Emmy-Winning Episode

By the season 16 premiere of Family Guy, Peter and the family have become fed up with their lack of recognition when it comes to television’s most prestigious awards, especially the Emmys. As a result, they begin to change up the basis of their series to make it more “Emmy material.”

In this scathing satire concerning the state of television, no fan favorite is safe. The episode parodies everything from Breaking Bad, to Modern Family, even taking jabs at Project Runway and House of Cards. Not only is it a fun ride, but it also exists as a time capsule, reminding audiences of the most popular series from the distant year of 2017.

4 Season 17: Big Trouble In Little Quahog

When Stewie shrinks Brian after a spat, he is forced to go after his friend on a minuscule scale to restore both of them to their natural heights. They face various dangers and inconveniences along the way, taking their cues from the classic film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Fans of the show are sure to love yet another classic Stewie and Brian misadventure, as they encounter a surprisingly diverse colony of amoebas that help them try to escape. The episode also features a fun subplot wherein the exterminator that Peter hires to deal with their pest problem slowly tries to seduce him.

3 Season 18: Rich Old Stewie

It is the distant future, everyone’s favorite residents of Quahog have advanced in years, though not in character. When the rich and successful Stewie learns that Peter is on his deathbed, he rushes back home with his siblings for their father’s final moments.

While the premise of this particular episode may seem rather heavy, things take a comedic turn rather quickly, as it becomes clear that Peter and the family were faking his death in order to get their hands on Stewie’s riches. In turn, the youngest Griffin blows up the house with them all inside, only for it to be later revealed that all of this had transpired in the young Stewie’s imagination.

2 Season 19: PeTerminator

When a Terminator in the likeness of Peter comes from the future to try and kill Stewie, it is revealed that, at some point in their futures, Brian and Stewie have a falling out, leading to each sending back numerous Terminators to kill the other. Family Guy’s two worst best friends must find a way to fix this before they bring an end to the world.

This episode includes plenty of the meta-humor that Family Guy is known for, as the constant action sequences become quite tiresome for the animators, whom Stewie and Griffin allow a brief respite, instead choosing to narrate the mayhem happening just off-screen to give them a break. There is also a brief Rick and Morty reference, as Stewie seems to possess Rick’s portal gun.

1 Season 20: Must Love Dogs

When Quagmire meets a beautiful single woman with a love for dogs, he asks Brian to pretend to be his dog in order to win her affections. However, Brian’s hatred for Quagmire can’t be contained, and he quickly begins to sabotage the relationship.

One of the latest episodes of Family Guy, “Must Love Dogs” emphasizes some of the best parts of the show, including a subplot wherein Peter and Chris hatch an intricate plot to steal Stewie’s Halloween candy. Despite being a part of the monumental 20th season of the series, it still feels fresh as ever.
