It’s fan Bionicle day (810NICLE) today, and it’s the perfect time to announce that the new Bionicle: Masks of Power game is coming to Steam. Developer Team Kanohi revealed the full project has received a Steam page, and a playable demo is on the way.

Masks of Power is developed by a group of enthusiasts from Team Kanohi. The fan-made game is based on the story of the original Lego Bionicle action figure line-up, which originally went on sale in 2001. The players will dive into the beloved universe with rich mythology to relive the legend of the mighty biomechanical beings Toa. As each of the six warriors, you have to collect the twelve Kanohi masks of power, free the islanders of Mata Nui, and defeat the evil species of corruption known as Makuta.

Bionicle: Masks of Power is an open-world action-adventure game, which is being developed on Unreal Engine 4. The ancient tropical island of Mata Nui has been completely reimagined and will consist of six distinct regions, full of beautiful vistas, formidable dangers, and hidden mysteries.

There are some detailed official screenshots on Steam right now, and you can also add the project to your wishlist. A release date is yet to be announced, but the creators have announced a playable demo will be available soon. Masks of Power is an unofficial free-of-play project so everyone will be able to jump into the true Bionicle experience hopefully sometime this year.

It’s worth mentioning that Masks of Power is not the only new Bionicle game on the market. There’s also Bionicle: Quest for Mata Nui fan-made project, which is nearly six years in the making. Quest for Mata Nui RPG will also offer an open world with a bunch of different environments, a solid combat system, NPCs with plenty of quests, and will support up to six players in co-op. The game is being built on the StarCraft 2 game engine and is expected to launch as a free-to-play game on PC with no specific date as of now.
