The Fast & Furious franchise has made underwater cars canon prior to the release of Fast & Furious 10. Universal Studios’ wildly popular action franchise has continued to increase the spectacle as time goes on. From street racing in the first film to pulling a safe through Brazil in Fast Five and jumping cars across buildings in Furious 7, the series isn’t afraid to push the limits of what audiences can believe and deliver massive action scenes in the process. This is one of many reasons why the movies have become such big box office hits.

The need to top what previous Fast & Furious movies have done before drove the franchise to always look for new and creative ways to include car-focused stunts. F9 did what many fans waited years to see by taking the characters and cars to space, albeit briefly. Fast & Furious 9 used giant car magnets to separate the movie’s stunts from what viewers have already seen, even though they weren’t very realistic. Infusing technology with the franchise’s vehicles has helped Fast & Furious achieve these various moments. This has helped keep fans entertained and surprised, and now underwater driving cars are officially part of the franchise’s canon.

In addition to making some of the biggest blockbusters, the Fast & Furious franchise expanded to the small screen in recent years with Netflix’s animated spinoff Fast & Furious: Spy Racers. The show has continued to push the franchise forward and introduce various exciting technological leaps, such as invisible cars in Fast & Furious: Spy Racers season 4. Spy Racers season 5 follows F9’s footsteps to explore where the franchise hasn’t gone before, but the animated series does this by going into the sea. Tony and his entire team discover that their cars, which come from Ms. Nowhere’s and Mr. Nobody’s secret organization, have the capability of driving underwater. It’s a massive revelation for the characters and the franchise overall as it speeds towards its two-part conclusion of Fast 10 and Fast 11.

Now that underwater cars are part of the Fast & Furious canon, there is a chance that they will be used in Fast 10. Tony Toretto and his fellow Spy Racers might not make appearances in the live-action movies, but their operation is directly linked to Dom’s crew. They are both aided by the same secret organization, but the Spy Racers routinely have more technologically advanced cars. That doesn’t have to be the case, though, and Mr. Nobody’s return in Fast 10 can give Dom and his team the upgraded cars.

If Fast 10 does utilize underwater cars, it should be another show-stopping piece of spectacle, on top of the first true connection to Fast & Furious: Spy Racers. Underwater action scenes can be tricky, but other major blockbusters like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Avatar 2 should feature plenty of them. Audiences won’t expect Fast & Furious to go off land, but that is really the only place left for Dom and his crew to go.
