The troubled esports gaming house FaZe Clan has found itself in another round of controversy as co-owner Nordan “Rain” Shat has been let go after posting a recording of himself in the process of a nervous breakdown earlier this week. Rain claimed that FaZe wasn’t paying him for his work as the group’s co-owner, sparking much backlash among his fanbase.

This is just the latest in a series of unfortunate events regarding FaZe Clan, as former member Turner “Tfue” Tenney famously took them to court after they knowingly tried to bind him to an exploitative Fortnite contract last year. Other, smaller controversies have also reared their heads, such as fellow member Daniel “Dubs” Walsh being suspended from the team for using a racial slur on a livestream back in March, and the group being accused of trying to sign a minor to their label around the same time as the lawsuit. Now the bad news continues for FaZe, with one of their top members at the heart of it all.

According to a report by Daily Esports, FaZe co-owner and YouTube gamer Rain announced that he has been kicked out of the FaZe gaming house on Thursday, remaining vague on their reason for doing but declaring that he is currently suffering from “a disorder where [he] can’t accept love.” He went on to take full responsibility for his release and insisted that his old team still cares for him in the face of the drama his aforementioned video post has caused. Unfortunately, this still hasn’t stopped a number of arguments from fans on social media either supporting Rain or accusing FaZe of abandoning him in his time of need, which team owner Richard “Banks” Bengston has vehemently denied.

This drama regarding Rain comes as FaZe Clan celebrated its 10-year anniversary on May 29, making the situation sting all the more. In much lighter news, other members of the group have seen great success recently, like deaf Fortnite player Soleil “EwOk” Wheeler, who made history for being the first female player to join the team last summer. However, it’s safe to say that FaZe’s seemingly never-ending wave of scandals will outweigh any goodwill they have gained with their recent player successes and efforts to be more inclusive.

So far it hasn’t been confirmed that Rain’s recent breakdown is the sole reason for FaZe letting him go, but it seems to be the likely culprit. Regardless, this situation is a sad one, especially with mental illness and depression remaining serious problems for many people. On the plus side, Rain seems to be gaining much support from his fans and former teammates, so hopefully he manages to get the help he needs and is soon able to resume his esports career or do whatever he wishes as he tries to figure out where he goes next in his life.
