As players progress through Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, they will eventually face the Extreme trial Hydaelyn’s Call. Completing this trial will reward players with the weapons of the Divine Light at item level 580 and the mount Lynx of the Divine Light. While Hydaelyn will use a variety of attacks during the fight, her primary mechanic is to channel the power of the elements of Water, Ice, or Earth through crystals. Depending on the element she chooses, players will need to respond differently to survive the three-phase fight.

During the first phase of the fight, Hydaelyn’s moves, in order, are Hero’s Radiance, Shining Saber, Crystallize, Magos’s Radiance, Lateral Aureole or Aureole, and Mousa’s Scorn. Both Hero’s Radiance and Magos’s Radiance are straightforward area of effect attacks that hit the entire Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker party. Shining Saber will deal significant damage and must be stacked by the whole party. To avoid damage from Lateral Aureole, players should stand North or South, but players should stand East or West to avoid the damage from Aureole. Finally, Mousa’s Scorn hits the party’s tanks, and they must share damage.

Crystallize is Hydaelyn’s most brutal attack during this phase, and she will cast it three times each time using either Water, Ice, or Earth. She will summon two symbols with three color possibilities. Red means the area of effect will be around her, so players should stand directly next to Hydaelyn to avoid taking damage in the Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Extreme trial. If the symbol is green, she will cast it under her, and players should get as far away from her as possible. Blue indicates straight areas of effect to the North, South, East, and West, and players should stand between these lines to avoid the attack. If the chosen element is Water, players must divide into two groups and split the damage. If Hydaelyn selects Ice, the damage is spread evenly. Finally, players will need to stack as eight if the element is Earth.

FFXIV: Extreme Trial Hydaelyn’s Call Second and Third Phases

To begin the second phase, Hydaelyn will summon six crystals that must be destroyed before players damage her. A timer will appear to indicate how long players have to complete this task before the Conviction gauge is full and the battle is lost. The Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker DPS should focus on the glowing crystals first because they cause the gauge to fill faster. Once all the crystals are destroyed, Hydaelyn will cast a party-wide area of effect and begin the third phase.

In the third phase of Hydaelyn’s Call, she will introduce new attacks in addition to those attacks she utilized in the first phase of the fight. When she casts Lightwave, Hydaelyn will summon four crystals and two waves. The waves will cause significant damage if the player steps in them or is splashed by the Water. Players should hide behind the crystals, not being splashed by the waves to avoid damage. Another new move during this fight is Infralateral Arc, which is three attacks, each targeting either tanks, DPS, or healers in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker. Parhelic Circle is a difficult attack to avoid, where Hydaelyn summons a huge bubble and green energy around her. The bubble will divide into smaller ones and burst around the green energy.

The final notable attack during the Extreme trial Hydaelyn’s Call is Echoes, an area of effect that hits the entire party and will hit five times. After that, Hydaelyn will summon waves, and markers will appear on each player during the final hits. Once this passes, players can avoid damage by standing between the waves in the center of the platform. If Hydaelyn becomes Enraged, players have run out of time to defeat her. Of note, the other Extreme trial players need to complete in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is Zodiark’s Fall.
