FIFA 22 still shows no signs of relinquishing its grip on the number one spot in the UK boxed chart despite a number of new releases launching since its arrival.

As we turned the corner into October and the video game release slate really started to ramp up, it would have been fair to expect a veritable revolving door at the top of the UK boxed chart. What we had forgotten about was the staying power of FIFA, especially in the UK. Another seven days have passed, and for the fourth week in a row, FIFA 22 was the best-selling boxed game in the UK.

What makes FIFA 22’s continued dominance of the chart even more impressive is the numbers surrounding its digital sales revealed last week. 77% of copies sold during its launch week were digital, yet it still managed to also take the top spot in the physical chart and has remained there for four weeks and counting.

FIFA 22 wasn’t the only game that managed to maintain a lofty position in the boxed chart last week. Far Cry 6 continues to boast strong physical sales, remaining at number two in the chart. It wasn’t such pleasant reading for MercurySteam as Metroid Dread has fallen from third to seventh after two weeks in the top three.

The best-performing new entry of the week goes to The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes which made it all the way up to number six. Outside of the top ten My Friend Peppa Pig, which also launched last week, debuts at number 26. Much like most Nintendo Switch games, there’s a strong chance the game might actually creep its way up the chart, especially as parents buy it for their children as a holiday gift.

Speaking of Switch games, the console continues to have a strong presence in the chart’s top ten beyond Dread alone. Stalwarts such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons still show no sign of going away anytime soon, sitting at third and fourth in the chart respectively. Next up to the plate to try and dethrone FIFA will be Guardians of the Galaxy which arrives on multiple platforms tomorrow.
