Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition will receive DLC that lets players look like the characters from other entries in the series, as well as receive new weapons that cannot be found in the base version of the game.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was originally released on the Nintendo GameCube, which means that it predates the DLC era. It went on to spawn its own side series on Nintendo systems, with consoles like the DS and Wii receiving their own Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles titles. The later games in the series focused more on the hack and slash aspects of the game, or moved into the strategy/simulation genre, and they never quite reached the same levels of critical acclaim as the original entry in the franchise.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition is a remaster of the game that is coming to mobile phones, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 next week. One of the new features in the game is the “Mimic” system, which will allow players to resemble other characters from the game. According to Famitsu, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition will have paid DLC that will let players resemble characters from different Crystal Chronicles games using the Mimic system.

The DLC characters include Yuri and Celinka from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fate, Leo and Chime from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, Sherlotta from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time, Mira and Bel Dat from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Dark Lord, and Layle from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. There will also be a set of Moogle weapons and Ancient weapon that can be purchased. The DLC will launch after the game is released.

It’s not unexpected for Square Enix to release DLC for its games, but it’s surprising that there aren’t more recognizable characters in there. It would be easy to stick some chibi versions of Final Fantasy VII characters in there for a quick buck, and we might see them being added further down the line.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition is available on August 27th on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, iOS, and Android.
