It has been a busy week in Final Fantasy XIV, and the long-awaited arrival of patch 5.3 is almost here. Launching on August 11, the entire leveling experience is receiving an overhaul that will make the overall game more friendly towards newer players. At the same time, the leveling of alt characters will be a faster, more streamlined experience for veterans.

These changes come mainly in the form of new main scenario quests. Players will also have access to a brand-new Mystery Trial, but some features are still being pushed back in time – such as the resistance weapon quests called “Save the Queen: Blades of Gunnhidr,” now scheduled for patch 5.35.

One of the biggest changes that players can expect to see with the new patch is the inclusion of Heavensward content added to all Starter Edition accounts. In this way, players have the option of checking out A Realm Reborn and to immediately tackle the Dragonsong War, if they choose.

With flying mounts, a new free-to-play level cap of 60, and more jobs available – now is the best possible time to check out Final Fantasy XIV. Be sure to check out the changes to A Realm Reborn main scenario quest requirements as well to make sure nothing is missed.

Although the patch is not yet live, players can check out a free PC and smartphone fan-kit right now by clicking here. The kit includes new wallpapers for Reflections in Crystal content, as well as Twitter profile headers.

While the new patch is on the minds of most players, the developers have also been hard at work dealing with real money trading (RMT). On August 5, it was announced that 3,225 accounts were terminated for engaging in RMT, six were temporarily suspended, and another 1,143 were terminated for RMT advertising. As RMT is one of the most impactful ways of upsetting the balance of the game, it is great to see a new round of bans.

Lastly, for those who might be looking to get back into the game, now is a great time to buy in as both the Standard and Digital Collectors Edition of the Shadowbringers expansion is 50% until August 19.
