Football Manager 2020 is currently free to play on Steam and will be until Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

When the COVID-19 outbreak was in its infancy in the US and Europe, which feels like months ago but was really just last week, it was suggested players and teams would simply play behind closed doors. Since games in stadiums require large amounts of people to gather, many seasons were put on hold. As athletes started to test positive for the virus, however, it quickly became clear that even closed door games weren’t a possibility. Now many sports fans lack one of their most reliable forms of escape during these uncertain times.

The one thing everyone can still do is play video games. Chances are to fill the sport-shaped hole in their lives, more people are turning to games like FIFA and Madden than ever before. For people without those games, or the funds to buy them, we have some good news. From now until 3 p.m. UK time on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, Football Manager 2020 is free to play on Steam.

For those unfamiliar with the FM franchise, it is one of the most in-depth soccer experiences a fan could ask for without training to become a part of it. The amount of work and detail that is put into every annual instalment of the game is astounding. Players are challenged with taking control of a team and taking them as far as they can. All of the thousands of players are real people whose stats are based on their real-life attributes.

As for getting your hands on the game, simply head to Steam any time between now and next Wednesday. The one caveat is once that deadline hits, even those who downloaded the game for free will no longer have access to it. The next few days are a free trial of sorts. The good news is any progress made will be saved and players can pick up right where they left off should they choose to purchase the game.
