For Honor has introduced the brutal Centurion class with the Shadow And Might DLC and it’s shaking up things on the battlefield. In addition to the rampant cliff side Sparta memes being reenacted, players are finding this brutal character can be very deadly in the right hands but is sometimes difficult to use to its full potential.

Hopefully some of these tips will give players a better understanding of how they should be using this mighty warrior and better employing him on the field of battle.

10 He’s Very Technical

The main thing to keep in mind when fighting as the Centurion is he is a very technical fighter. He is not a simple-minded brawler with heavy attacks or a fast spammer of any kind. The Centurion requires players to be able to read opponents well and perform moves with precision timing.

Some would argue he tends to turtle in gameplay, but this is largely from misuse and trying to fight with him in a simplistic manner. He is a tough class to utilize effectively, but for those who learn his ways, this technical fighter is brutal.

9 Keep Your Enemies Close

The Centurion’s one primary disadvantage is that it is by no means a ranged character. The gladius is the character’s primary weapon and is one of the shortest weapons in the game. To get anywhere with the Centurion, players need to get up close and personal so their short swords have a chance of striking the opponent.

This isn’t to say it’s a flawed class to play by any means, just that it requires a little more brawling then say a Nobushi fighting from further back with a spear. To be effective as a Centurion learn to fight up close and keep the opponent within that gladius’s short reach.

8 Kick Opponents To Their Death

An appreciated movie reference by the For Honor community, the Centurion has a signature move called the Knockback Kick. Often these are used by players to send their foes hurtling off cliffs with iconic battle cries, but it can also be used to stun an opponent and drain some of their stamina.

If the player can knock an opponent down with a well-timed kick this gives an opportunity to perform a deadly execution move with a brutal jumping attack. In general if you see an opportunity to get a kick in, always take it.

7 Throw A Knee Whenever You Can

Similar to the kick, the Centurion can also throw a quick knee attack that can continue a barrage of attacks and keep the opponent stumbling. If the player manages to parry an opponents attack and follows it up with a well-placed knee this opens the opponent up for a brutal heavy attack that will always land.

Admittedly the knee is a little more situational than the kick, but the player would be a fool to not capitalize on a guaranteed heavy attack after a successful parry, so throw that knee around.

6 Unleash Your Imperial Might

The Centurion has a devastating zone attack that works surprisingly well in one on one battles if used correctly. When Imperial Might is used the Centurion unleashes a barrage of attacks that finishes up with an unblockable attack.

The downside with Imperial Might is that it’s very easy to reverse if the opponent knows what they’re doing. This makes Imperial Might a situational combo that should be used after the opponent is reeling from a kick or running low on stamina. You might get away with spamming it against beginners, but advanced players will wreck you so wait for the right moment.

5 Get Those Free Hits

As you may have noticed already the Centurion has some quick attacks and follow-ups that while they may not do a lot of damage, can open up future attacks and are good for chipping away at an opponent’s health pool.

Learn to milk these free hits for everything their worth by using them after every parry and throw those jabs whenever you can. It might feel like your slap fighting at times, but those little hits can mean a lot in the overall fight and are too simple to perform to pass up.

4 Stamina Vampire

The Centurion is something of a stamina vampire in that the majority of his attacks revolve around draining an opponent’s stamina. In addition to managing your own stamina in battle, half of the Centurion’s strategy is managing the stamina of his opponents.

Your hits may not be landing much damage at first, but once your opponent is knocked down you’ll be free to deal a barrage of attacks and punish them brutally. Remember, the Centurion is a technical fighter not a brawler so go after the opponent’s stamina bar in the beginning, the health bar will come later.

3 When The Enemy Falls, Pounce

Expanding upon the idea that the Centurion is a stamina vampire the Centurion possesses a leaping attack that can deal devastating amounts of damage if not outright killing the opponent. Half of the Centurion’s strategy is biding time until they see an opponent fall and then pouncing on them like a puma.

There are few feelings as glorious or satisfying in this game as leaping onto an opponent for a brutal stab attack as the Centurion, except maybe a kick off the cliffside.

2 Once You Start, Don’t Stop

The Centurion is not designed for long drawn out fights or trading blows by any means. The minute you see an opening and begin an attack, stay close and behave aggressively. The Centurion shines when he can keep the opponent pinned down and at his mercy.

Ensure your enemy has no way to retaliate by keeping the pressure on when you start an attack and don’t finish unless they manage to weasel their way out or they lie lifeless on the ground. This character has a lot of tools at their disposal to keep the enemy staggered or knocked down so use them and take advantage of them, never play it safe when the enemy is helpless.

1 Capitalize On Mistakes

Summarizing the points made above the Centurion is designed to be a tactical fighter who reads his opponent’s movements and capitalizes on any mistakes they make. This fighter is an opportunist and should be treated as such at all times.

Well placed knees follow a parry to guarantee a heavy attack, throwing a kick to send an enemy flying or stagger them, unleash an Imperial Might combo when they’re vulnerable, and jump as soon as the enemy’s back hits the ground is key to dominating as the Centurion. It takes a lot of practice, but it could be argued that once you’ve mastered playing the Centurion, you’ve mastered the game.
