Fortnite has now hit a peak of 8.3 million concurrent players. No, you did not read that incorrectly, we did say 8.3 million.

It feels as if almost everyone and their dog is playing Fortnite. The game’s developer, Epic, only released the free-to-play Battle Royale version of the game 14 months ago, yet in that time it has taken the world by storm. The steady release of the game across every platform imaginable has helped, hitting Android devices this past summer. That was pretty much the last hill to conquer for Fortnite on the platform front.

When Fortnite came to Android, it had high hopes. The number 250 million was even thrown around as that was the size of the new market Epic had opened Fortnite up to with its release on the mobile platform. Not that many of us are playing Fortnite (yet) but the number of concurrent players at the moment is still pretty staggering.

Sung Chul Park, a spokesperson for Epic Games Korea, said in a recent interview that Fortnite currently has 8.3 million concurrent players. A staggering number, and one that VG247 has reportedly checked with Epic more than once. Mr. Park’s statement has been confirmed to be correct, and Fortnite actually has 8.3 million active players around the world right now. Pretty amazing, and a figure that has more than doubled since February of this year.

One of the reasons a Korean representative of Epic was being interviewed is because Fortnite launched in South Korea last week. That’s right, 8.3 million players and it still isn’t available in every single country. Players in South Korea were encouraged to play at PC Bang cafes and even had tailor-made challenges, courtesy of Epic. Considering the popularity of gaming and esports in South Korea, the release of Fortnite there is only going to increase the current concurrent player number.

As mentioned above, the number of active players on Fortnite has more than doubled in the past nine months. In February, the number stood at a still impressive 3.4 million players. That was before it was released on Android or iOS. Back then, the servers struggled with such a high demand. Clearly, Epic has gotten its act together, because with 8.3 million players gliding down onto Battle Royale Island, we very rarely have any issues.

Josh has been gaming for as long as he can remember. That love began with a mild childhood addiction to the Sega Genesis, or Mega Drive since he lives in the UK. Back then, Sonic 2 quickly became his favorite game and as you might have guessed from his picture, the franchise has remained close to his heart ever since. Nowadays, he splits his time between his PS4 and his Switch and spends far too much time playing Fortnite.
