Firefly Jars have been added to Fortnite this week. Here’s where to find them, how to fill them, and most important of all, how to use them.
Last week in Fortnite was all about the start of Chapter 2: Season 3. That new beginning was all about water. Aquaman, Loot Sharks, The Fortilla. Suffice to say the new season looks very different from the one it has left behind. In fact, it looks different from any Fortnite season we have seen to date.
The changes continue to roll in as week one of Season 3 has become week two. One of the biggest additions this week was that of the Firefly Jar. An entirely new item to the Fortnite universe, so it figures that most players won’t know how to use it. That’s where we come in.
First of all, finding a Firefly Jar couldn’t be easier. That’s because every single player will find one in their inventory at the start of every round. To use it, players will first need to fill the jar with fireflies. The illuminated little critters will only manifest in the game when day turns to night. Once the sun has set on the map, the best places to find fireflies will be near woodland, trees, and in particular, flying around campfires.
Once players have located a swarm of fireflies, gathering them up and popping them in a jar couldn’t be easier. Simply approach the bugs and hit whatever button that needs to be hit on your chosen platform when prompted. Fortnite’s fireflies appear to be pretty tame. By that we mean there’s no need to sneak up on them as they won’t scatter or fly away when startled.
Once players have a jar full of fireflies at their disposal, they can use it to do damage to their opponents. Throwing a full jar will start a fire that doles out 40 damage should it come into contact with an enemy. Not a massive amount of damage, but the perfect way to smoke out a camper, or even something to throw into a bush or through a window should a player suspect someone is hiding inside.
