Fortnite mobile has pushed past consoles and is now capable of running at 90FPS on the OnePlus 8! It’s no secret that Fortnite has dominated the gaming industry this past year, and with the addition of their mobile gaming version of Fortnite, they looked to further that domination.
Recently, OnePlus has partnered with Epic Games in order to deliver the first-ever mobile version of Fortnite that is capable of running 90 frames per second (FPS). Previous to this, the highest FPS that Fortnite mobile could achieve was 60FPS. The iPad Pro on the other hand is capable of running Fortnite mobile at 120FPS, once the games graphical settings had been substantially lowered.
In comparison, Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch runs at 30FPS, while the PS4 and Xbox One run Fortnite at 60FPS. The PS4 version and Xbox One version of Fortnite are running higher graphics and are utilizing more power, so just because the OnePlus 8 is able to run Fortnite at 90FPS does not mean that it has better internals than the aforementioned consoles.

It is unconfirmed whether or not this advancement and progression in FPS will affect the games overall graphics on the OnePlus 8; however, since presumably a majority of the phone’s power will be going to pushing for 90FPS, it is very likely that much like the iPad Pro, you will need to adjust the graphical settings in order to reach 90FPS. However, this trade-off is one many gamers will graciously take as it means Fortnite mobile may become more competitive.
What this news means is that mobile gaming, while still not at the level of console games, is quickly becoming more and more powerful with each passing year. And while, the OnePlus 8 may not be able to push the same graphics that a console or PC may be able to push, being able to reach 90FPS is no easy feat. If the OnePlus 8 does as mentioned and is able to achieve 90FPS with relative ease, it may force more mobile developers, game developers and phone companies to pay more attention to the mobile gaming market. OnePlus and Epic Games may very have taken the first step to truly competitive mobile gaming with this advancement!
