Galarian Articuno Moltres & Zapdos Are Coming To The Crown Tundra DLC For Pokémon Sword & Shield

The mighty Legendary Birds of Kanto have cousins in the Pokémon version of Great Britain, as Galarian versions of Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos are coming in The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword & Shield.

Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos have been part of the Pokémon franchise since the days of Pokémon Red & Blue, where they were the comparatively easiest Legendary Pokémon to acquire. We say comparatively because they were still an absolute nightmare to catch and would likely require fifty Ultra Balls to wear down, but they were still easier than competing with the power of Mewtwo or traveling to a real-life event to receive Mew. The Legendary Birds starred in the second Pokémon movie and they have been a recurring part of the franchise over the years.

Fans of the Legendary Birds will have new versions of them to catch later this year, as they are receiving Galarian forms in the upcoming The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword & Shield. The Galarian Legendary Birds possess brand new types and they each have powerful moves to call upon in battle.

According to Game Press, Galarian Articuno is a Psychic/Flying-type Pokémon that has access to a move called Freezing Glare, which is a Psychic-type move that can possibly freeze opponents. Galarian Moltres is a Dark/Flying-type Pokémon that has access to a move called Fiery Wrath that can possibly cause opponents to flinch. Galarian Zapdos is a Fighting/Flying-type Pokémon that has access to a move called Thunderous Kick that lowers the enemy’s defense stat.

The Galarian versions of the Legendary Birds are said to be migratory versions of the originals, which is why they still resemble their original types. It’s unclear how the player will catch them in The Crown Tundra DLC, but it’s likely that everyone will have to hunt them down, just like in the good old days of Pokémon Red & Blue.

The Isle of Armor DLC for Pokémon Sword & Shield will be released on June 17, 2020. The Crown Tundra will be released this autumn.
