Samsung’s internet browser app is now available to download on other Wear OS 2 smartwatches, making it easier to surf the web on a wearable. In fact, it was only recently that Samsung made the web browser application for its Tizen-powered smartwatches available for its own wearables running on Wear OS, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

There are various apps available for smartwatches, but a browser isn’t a common one. That should come as no surprise considering the screen on most smartwatches is less than two inches in size. Despite the size constraint, Samsung does offer a web browser for its smartwatches. Prior to the launch of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, Samsung’s smartwatches ran on Tizen OS. This also resulted in apps needing to be downloaded from the company’s Galaxy Store, some of which are not available or don’t have an equivalent on the Google Play Store.

The Samsung Internet browser app is now available for other smartwatches, according to some Reddit users. So far, the smartwatches that the browser has been tested on include the OPPO Watch, TicWatch Pro 3, Moto 360, Fossil Gen 5, and Casio WSD-F20. 9To5 Google has also confirmed that it works on the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra. For those that do own a Wear OS 2 watch, they should be able to install the app on their device through the Play Store.

A Handy Browser

While some users may not see the need to have a browser installed on their smartwatch, there are situations where having one can come in handy. For example, those times when someone wants to quickly check info on the internet and their other devices are not within reach. If there is an internet browser installed on the smartwatch, the user can simply fire that up and check. Those with an LTE-enabled smartwatch will also find having a browser on the wrist useful on days when they are without their smartphones.

With the arrival of the Samsung internet browser app on the Play Store, it is expected that more apps will be ported from its Tizen Galaxy Store over to Wear OS through the Play Store. Samsung also recently ported over is PPT Controller app, which allows users to control a PowerPoint presentation using their smartwatch, and there is a chance that too could become available for other Wear OS smartwatches soon. Most likely, the popular ones will get ported and be available not only on Samsung’s own smartwatches, but those made by other brands as well.
