There is a frustrating trend among video game developers to reuse names for different titles, such as Doom and God of War. The developers of the Star Wars Battlefront series decided to do the same thing, which means that we have to clarify that the Star War: Battlefront II that is available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers this month is the one that was released in 2005, and is not the controversial game that was released in 2017.

Star Wars: Battlefront II was a popular shooter game that found an audience on consoles during the early days of PlayStation 2/Xbox online multiplayer. Battlefront II improved over the original thanks to a memorable single-player campaign and the addition of new characters, vehicles, and playable modes.

Star Wars: Battlefront II is based on the Xbox port of the game, and the version given away as part of Xbox Live Gold will be playable on both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One through its backward compatibility. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 will also be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers in April on the same systems.

The Xbox 360/Xbox One versions of Star Wars: Battlefront II will not have any online modes available, as the servers for the original Xbox are no longer active, which means that the player will be left with the single-player and offline modes.

Outcast – Second Contract and The Technomancer will also be available to Xbox Live Gold Subscribers in April, but they will only be playable on Xbox One.

PlayStation Plus has recently reduced the number of games that are given away each month to two, while Nintendo Switch Online only gives away two games each month in Europe and North America, while Japan receives three. As it currently stands, Xbox Live Gold is giving away more titles to subscribers each month than the competing services.

Star Wars: Battlefront II and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 will be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers on April 1st, with both games being playable on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Outcast – Second Contact and The Technomancer will be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers on April 15th for Xbox One.
