GameSpot might have offered us more information about the Final Fantasy VII Remake’s demo after it revealed its release date and then quickly retracted it.

Recently, there have been ongoing leaks about the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo that talk about what it has in store for players when it launches, who the characters are, what section of the game players will go through, and so on. However, no specific date regarding the demo’s launch has been released, thus causing players to wonder when they will get the opportunity to try the demo out.

In a turn of recent events however, GameSpot managed to “reveal” the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo before quickly retracting the statement, and possibly for a good reason. Before the statement was retracted, GameSpot posted an informational sheet that answers basic questions about the game similar to a FAQ. One of the questions asked about the demo’s release date, to which GameSpot replied that it will release on March 3, 2020.

This date is oddly suspicious and bizarre because it is the exact same date when the game itself launches. In other words, what would be the point of a demo if it releases alongside the game? Normally, demos are released a few weeks or months before the game itself in order to give players a taste of what can be expected. Releasing a demo at the same time as the game would certainly raise some questions.

Shortly after posting the informational sheet, GameSpot realized its error and changed the date to say “As of yet a date for the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo has not been confirmed.” It’s not clear whether the date was posted as an honest mistake, an error, or GameSpot was rushing things before getting the thumbs up from Square Enix. What is clear is that there is certainly going to be a demo for the game (aside from the leaks, the informational sheet basically confirms the demo’s existence).

One thing to note is that the demo — as well as the game — will be a timed PS4 exclusive. When both release, they will be exclusive to the PS4 before launching for other platforms. As far as the demo itself goes, it will likely release sometime before the game.
