Pet abandonment can be quite an issue, particularly around Easter. Around that time of year, people will sometimes purchase baby rabbits or ducks for their children as gifts. Often once they grow up and lose their novelty, the kids lose interest, and while most people do responsibly surrender them to a shelter, there are a few ignorant owners who simply abandon them in the wilds to fend for themselves.

Ooblets, the life-sim by Glumberland, recently set up a very important message with its latest update regarding responsible pet ownership.

Space tends to be a fickle battle when it comes to farming sim and creature collecting games in general. The plant critters of Ooblets are so adorable that you want them all, and you want them all right away, but then you quickly run out of room for other ones that come along down the road. Plu,s as cute as one might be, getting third and fourth and fifth copies of one can make gameplay feel repetitive after a while. Fortunately, the developer’s newest update allows you to release extra ooblets into the Wildlands so you can have more room in your farm for other ones.

Your multiples will have the chance to run free in the woods and be watched over by Mosssprouts leader Outgrid. However, the title makes it clear they want you to distinguish a game versus real life when it comes to giving away a pet via a specific message when you give away your ooblets, stating:

Important Notice: Oob is a lot safer than the real world. Never, ever abandon real pets in the wilderness. Don’t adopt pets you can’t commit to looking after for their entire life, but if you need to, arrange a relinquishment at a local animal shelter.

It’s a tremendously responsible move on the creator’s part.

Seeing as the full game hasn’t launched yet, you can’t access the wilds where the released ooblets go, so keep in mind that you can’t get them back and most likely won’t be able to should you choose to release them. There isn’t an official date yet for the game’s full, complete release, but it’s likely you’ll get to explore the wilds once it does. For now, the game has all kinds of features standard for the genre, and it sure looks like a lot of fun.
