There are more than 2000 grunts and sighs in FFVII: Remake, and that’s only when accounting for the cutscenes during the game’s main story.

The video game world has been flooded with remasters and remakes over the course of the past half a decade or so. Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and now even Mario have been or will be subject to remastered versions of their classic titles. However, the one game to have been recreated in what appears to be more painstaking detail than any other is Final Fantasy VII.

FFVII: Remake is basically like playing an entirely new game, even for players who have played the original. Square Enix kept enough of the game’s original elements to satisfy many fans, but it has also been a point of contention for others. Whether you like FFVII: Remake or not, it’s hard to not appreciate how much work has gone into the game.

It makes sense since the gap between the reveal that the game was being made and its release was a big one. Seems as if its creators spent a large chunk of that time recording grunts, sighs, and other sound effects some people might not consider important. During FFVII Remake’s main story cutscenes alone, there are more than 2000 of these sound effects.

2033, to be exact. How do we know that? Because the team over at Destructoid counted them and made a supercut, which can be checked out above, to prove it. Grunts and sighs are a mainstay in most animes, and that trope appears to have leaked over into the video game world. While it stands in for characters needing to verbally respond, just imagine how long it must have taken to record and apply each and every one of these sounds.

Although not confirmed, after watching the video above, we’d hazard to guess the squat contest is the most grunt-filled segment of FFVII: Remake. Kudos for including that. Even better, only one of the three back-to-back squat contests has been included. Just imagine how much the number would jump up the sounds from all three rounds made the cut. Plus, all the noises NPCs make when bumped into. If there’s a game with more grunts and sighs than FFVII: Remake, we are yet to play it.
