Homeworld is going to become a tabletop RPG thanks to Gearbox licensing out the franchise.

Earlier this year at PAX West, we found out that Gearbox had big plans for Homeworld, the 1999 3D space RTS game. Homeworld 3 was announced to be in development from Blackbird Interactive, the makers of the Homeworld prequel Deserts of Kharak. In addition, Homeworld Mobile was also revealed, although we had far less info on that offering and the teaser made it seem like just a port of the original PC game.

Now we’re being told that Gearbox wants to conquer another gaming segment using the Homeworld franchise: your kitchen table.

We’re talkin’ tabletop RPGs. We assume RPG-gaming is done on the kitchen table since its usually the biggest table in the household. Not everyone has enough room for a dedicated gaming table.

Anyway, the tabletop game will be called Homeworld: Revelations. It’s in development from Modiphius Entertainment, the same company that brought such gems as The Elder Scrolls: Call To Arms tabletop wargame as well as Star Trek Adventures Living Campaign.

Based on their 2d20 system, Revelations will be utterly steeped in Homeworld lore. The game will center around the Kushan people as they flee from the Taiidan Empire following the destruction of their homeworld of Kharak. Led by the Mothership, the survivors fight a war against the Taiidan as they search for the legendary world of Hiigara. You play as someone aboard the Kharak fleet, either on the Mothership or one of their many escort vessels.

Modiphus tapped one of Homeworld’s original writers, Martin Cirulis, as well as experts from Gearbox and Blackbird Interactive in order to get the setting just right. There will be a ton of original art and endless opportunity to explore the universe of Homeworld

It looks like things are still in the early stages as Modiphus doesn’t have anything else to share at the moment. More details are expected in 2020. You can sign up on the official Homeworld: Revelations website to get emailed notifications of where this game is at.
