Following the release of Genshin Impact’s Version 2.3 event, “Bantan Sango Case Files: The Warrior Dog,” players will have the opportunity to capture and replicate animals roaming in the open world to place inside their Serenitea Pot. This feature is similar to the catching mechanics of the popular Pokémon games – where players will have to deploy a net for capture of a creature – though it lacks the same complexity and overall longevity of the function. The feature made possible by the Omni-Ubiquity Net gadget has the potential to increase player functionality while incorporating new and exciting challenges for players to enjoy.

Genshin Impact’s newest gadget, the Omni-Ubiquity Net, is rewarded to players at the conclusion of the “Bantan Sango Case Files: The Warrior Dog” event. It functions similarly to the prototype Ubiquity Net used in the event, although this gadget is solely used for capturing. Players can equip this gadget as they explore the open world and wield it in the presence of creatures they come across. Once captured, these creatures can be placed inside the player’s Serenitea Pot where they can inhabit the unique realm as they would in the open world.

Although this gadget is meant to aid the Serenitea Pot’s customization, creatures caught with the Omni-Ubiquity Net should be able to join the player in the open world as battle companions. Players may already have passive companions such as the Shiki Koshou from Genshin Impact’s “Labyrinth Warriors” event, who simply follow behind the player on their journey. With the help of battle companions that aid in damage output, players can complete their daily tasks and explore much more efficiently.

Genshin Impact 2.3 Capture Gadget Has Potential For Open-World Companions

Similar to the Pokémon games, these battle companions can be “evolved” which can look like the standard Genshin Impact Character Ascension requiring Character EXP and monster materials. At each Ascension, these companions can become stronger and more supportive to the player. Unique skills can be added for each creature type, which makes capturing them all the more challenging. For example, fox companions can have a passive skill that allows the player a larger radius of safety when resisting enemy detection.

Some monsters may have particularly mobile move-sets, such as Genshin Impact’s Hydro Abyss Mages that favor sneaky attacks and teleportation. Battle companions should be able to detect where monsters will appear, regardless of skills that may influence their movements. This could also work for enemies that can lock onto targets – namely, Ruin Guards and Ruin Hunters. Most times, players are only notified of an incoming attack by battle music and a target on their character. This can be dire in situations where players are preoccupied with other enemies. Battle companions should be able to signal the player and redirect the target elsewhere, making them a strong defensive unit.

Aside from the battle aspect, part of the game’s success comes from the incredibly massive world to explore, including Genshin Impact’s secret underground areas. Along the journey, players can battle monsters, pick flowers, gather fruits, mine ore, and more. Battle companions, in addition to damage output, should be able to help the player collect these items. This can be an incredibly useful feature, especially in situations where players may receive an abundance of loot at once, such as Ley Line Blossoms. With a companion that assists in looting items, players can focus more on exploring and farming for materials rather than spamming keys to collect them. Although it is headed in the right direction, Genshin Impact still has a long way to go when considering the potential of the Omni-Ubiquity Net’s capture feature.
