Get Sword & Shield Starters With Hidden Abilities Free In Pokémon Home Starting Today

If you’ve got a Pokémon Home account, you can get all three Sword & Shield starters with their Hidden Abilities for free starting today.

We got the announcement that The Isle of Armor, Pokémon Sword & Shields’ first expansion, is coming out on June 17. On top of that, Nintendo is also hosting a promo event for Pokémon Home that can net you a Grookey, Sobble, and Scorbunny each with their Hidden Abilities, absolutely free.

All you gotta do is sign up for Pokémon Home and transfer one or more Pokémon to your Home box. After that, all three Sword & Shield starters will be available to download as Mystery Gifts. Since you can get a Pokémon Home account for free, this means there are three free starters just waiting for you to claim.

In order to claim those starters, you’ll need to download the Pokémon Home App on your mobile device since you can’t claim Mystery Gifts on the Switch version of the app (for some reason–don’t ask us why). Once you’ve claimed the Mystery Gift on the app, the Pokémon are automatically transferred to your Home box, and from there you can transfer them to Sword & Shield.

Now let’s get to those Hidden Abilities. Grookey gets Grass Surge, which causes the terrain to become grassy whenever it enters the battlefield. This will boost the power of all Grass-type moves by 30%.

Scorbunny gets Libero, a brand new ability that causes its type to become the type of the move it’s about to use. So if Scorbunny is about to use the Flying-type move Acrobatics, Scorbunny will become a Flying-type Pokémon until the end of the battle or until another move is used. This means that Scorbunny’s attacks will always have the same-type damage boost no matter what move it uses.

And finally, Sobble gets Sniper, an ability that boosts critical hit damage from 150% to 225%. This pairs extremely well with Inteleon’s signature move, Snipe Shot, which has an increased chance to be a critical hit.

These three starters will be available starting today for a limited time, so best act now to claim them before they’re gone.
