After seven seasons, Gilmore Girls teamed up with Netflix for a reboot: Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The reboot was four episodes and showed what life was like for Lorelai, Rory, and the rest of Stars Hollow. At the end of the reboot, Rory dropped a bomb that would change her life forever. But there were a lot of unanswered questions as her surprise was the last sentence in the series.

Like many drama/comedies, some fans loved the ending of Gilmore Girls and others loathed it. Whether it was the original series or the reboot, fans came together and added their own alternate endings to the original and reboot that could have made the series even more entertaining.

10 If Rory Accepted Logan’s Proposal

Some fans can’t help but think that if Rory accepted Logan’s proposal in the original series, all of her issues in the reboot would be resolved. Her ending would have been completely different.

She would have been financially backed by Logan and his family, she would probably be working at one of the Huntzberger media companies, and she wouldn’t be living out of boxes. Instead, she was struggling in all areas of her life in the reboot while still sleeping with a very engaged Logan.

9 Mitchum Wasn’t Wrong

When Mitchum told Rory that she didn’t have what it took to be a journalist, her entire world came crashing down. But as fans saw in the reboot, he wasn’t wrong. Rory was smart and savvy but she didn’t have what it took to be where she wanted to be.

If she did, she would have been there already as a Yale alumnus. According to a fan on Reddit, instead of Rory’s final words being, “Mom, I’m pregnant,” they wish it was “Mitchum Huntzberger was right.”

8 A Slight Change In Careers

Instead of declining Logan and becoming a journalist, one fan thinks that Rory should have switched fields after journalism didn’t turn out the way she wanted.

Being a single parent is hard work and Lorelai didn’t pretend that it wasn’t. However, Lorelai wouldn’t change the way she raised Rory for anything. But does that mean Rory has what it takes to do what Lorelai did? Not necessarily.

One fan took a fun spin on an alternate ending and suggested that Logan was the father of Rory’s baby and Rory couldn’t handle being a mom. Instead, she gave Logan full custody of the baby and continued finding herself. This would mean that Rory was essentially following in Christopher’s footsteps instead of her mom’s.

6 Lane Is Single & Thriving

Lane was a huge part of Gilmore Girls that deserved more justice. Not too many fans were thrilled that she ended up with Zack and stayed in Stars Hollow as a young mom. Lane deserved to travel, perform, and continue creating.

To give Lane a new ending, a Redditor suggested that she was a part of the LGBTQ+ community, single, and touring the world. Instead of Rory being the most well-known kid in Stars Hollow, it was Lane because of her musical fame. It’s the worthy ending that Lane deserved.

5 What If Rory Went To Harvard?

Things would have changed drastically if Rory’s end to high school had her attending Harvard instead of Yale. The alternate ending from a Redditor suggests that Rory goes to Harvard for her degree but it was too hard for Lorelai being so far.

Instead, she gets back together with Christopher and moves to Boston to be closer to her only daughter. This alternate ending would skip the drama between Rory and Dean, Rory and Jess, and Rory and Logan; but that’s not to say that Rory wouldn’t have met someone else at Harvard to start a life with.

4 Full Circle

In what has to be an opportunity missed for Gilmore Girls, one viewer had an even better alternate ending for the reboot than what was given the green light.

Instead of Rory telling Lorelai that she was pregnant, it should have ended with Lorelai working late at the Dragonfly Inn on a rainy night and in walks a young girl with a baby. Looking just like a modern-day version of Lorelai and Rory, the young girl asks “Can I stay here?” It would have been a full-circle moment for Lorelai.

3 Rory & Jess Are Endgame

Fans knew that Jess still loved Rory in the reboot. The way he looked at her and lingered proved that he would take her back if she wanted to. Instead of continuing her affair with Logan, what if Rory realized that Jess has been there all along; and that it was time to give him another chance?

Pregnant with Logan’s baby, Rory begins a relationship with Jess where he’s completely accepting of her baby as long as he got to spend his life with her.

2 Lorelai & Luke’s Wedding

Fans were shocked when Lorelai proposed to Luke on a whim. She was not in a good space mentally and had never mentioned marrying Luke before. Why now? One Redditor pointed out that their alternate ending would include Luke taking Lorelai on a boat ride where he would finally have his time to propose to her.

When they got back to town, they had a small wedding under the chuppah that Luke made for Lorelai all those years before. It would have been fitting to have this scene in the reboot.

1 Gilmore Girls: The Book

After talking to Jess in the reboot, Rory realizes that a book about her life with Lorelai would be interesting and decides to pursue it. Lorelai wasn’t on board with the book at first but eventually comes around to the idea.

For one fan, the perfect final sentence for the series would have been “I sold the book.” Selling the book would mean that their dirty laundry would be aired out to everyone, including Emily Gilmore and the rest of Stars Hollow. It would also mean that Rory finally found her calling.
