Throughout the series, the backbone of the show is definitely the bond between Rory and Lorelai that more often resembles them being best friends rather than mother and daughter. However, there are countless other strong friendships and moments on the show.

From Sookie and Lorelai starting their inn to Lane and Rory figuring out their lives together, there are many moments that fans love to re-watch between the main friendships on the show.

10 Rory Helping Lane Dye Her Hair

Lane did not shy away from breaking her mother’s rules. She had a secret stash of music and makeup under her floorboards. She even double-layered her clothes in the first season so she could show up back home in a Mrs. Kim-approved shirt. So when Lane finds out her mother wants to send her to a conservative college, it is a big step for her to act out by dyeing her hair completely purple and can’t hide from her mother.

Rory is right there to help Lane and the two have no idea what they are doing. It is one of the best moments between the two since it feels so realistic. Lane running around the block when the bleach is burning and Rory worried about inhaling the fumes is the kind of hijinks that best friends always get themselves into.

9 Paris and Rory Staying In On Spring Break

Paris and Rory hesitantly agree to go to Florida for Spring Break their first year at Yale. The second night they are there they decide to stay in their hotel room and watch The Power of Myth and eat pizza.

It is a really cute moment between the two because it showed viewers how similar Rory and Paris actually are. When they look at what they define as having fun, they begin to doubt if they are even doing Spring Break right. However, nothing stops them from staying in and it is a rare moment in their friendship where they actually agree.

8 Sookie’s Excitement About Rory Getting Into Chilton

Sookie was always there for Rory when Lorelai was raising her and it is so adorable to see how excited she gets when Rory gets admitted to Chilton. Even before Lorelai can tell Rory, Sookie just bursts it out to Rory’s surprise.

This scene is so sweet between Lorelai and Sookie and establishes how close they are in the first season. Sookie being just as excited as Lorelai that Rory is going to Chilton just proves how strong of a friendship they have. Obviously, Sookie wants what is best for Rory and that is one of the reasons that she and Lorelai stay such good friends.

7 Lorelai and Sookie Watching Dark Shadows Together

When Sookie is pregnant, she starts to feel overwhelmed by raising Davy and being doted on by Jackson constantly. She ends up staying at the inn after hours and watching Dark Shadows in order to get a break. Lorelai quickly catches her after things seem out of place in many rooms throughout the inn.

Rather than shaming her or getting angry, Lorelai hears her out about how she needs a night to herself. Lorelai adorably joins Sookie in the bed and they finish an episode of Dark Shadows before they agree that Sookie should tell Jackson. It is so cute to see the two enjoy the inn they created and spend some time together.

6 Lane’s Wedding Day

Lane and Zack getting married was a huge moment in Gilmore Girls. There were so many great moments in the episode but one that gets overlooked is Rory helping Lane get ready before the ceremony. Rory being Lane’s maid of honor was inevitable to viewers, but the scene when Rory is helping Lane with her dress was just so lovely for fans.

There have been times throughout the series when Lane and Rory didn’t seem like truly close friends, but on Lane’s wedding day Rory makes sure Lane feels special. They both are in shock at how much they’ve grown up and how excited they both are to see Lane get married.

5 Sookie and Lorelai The Night Before Her Wedding

Sookie and Jackson’s wedding was anticipated by viewers the moment Jackon proposed to her. The night before her big day, Sookie is frantically readjusting her wedding cake at the Inn while wearing her dress.

Lorelai comes down to the kitchen after getting together with Christopher and talks Sookie down from all of her worries and her doubts. The two are able to really let the fact that Sookie is getting married sink in, and have a cute moment they will obviously look back on fondly.

4 Rory Comforting Paris After Not Getting Into Harvard

Paris and Rory were in constant competition at Chilton. That competition carried over into applying for Ivy League colleges and especially on getting into Harvard their senior year. When Paris breaks down during a school speech that she and Rory are doing on C-SPAN, everyone finds out she did not get into Harvard and she blames it on the fact that she lost her virginity.

Rory being there for Paris to comfort her remains one of the sweetest moments in their friendship. Rory puts aside her and Paris’ differences and is just there for her friend. Paris is a really complex character and having Rory be there by her side definitely proves that they are great friends.

3 Lorelai Encouraging Sookie To Ask Jackson Out

When Sookie says she and Jackson should go out sometime, Sookie is left wondering when that “sometime” will be since they haven’t talked about it since. Sookie seems to be doubting that Jackson even wants to date anymore, so Lorelai encourages her to call Jackson first and set up their date.

Sookie gets his voicemail and starts fumbling her words. Like any true friend would, Lorelai tells Sookie to just hang up and stop talking but is proud of her. It is such an encouraging moment between the two and just really makes their friendship feel real.

2 Lorelai Helping Rory Settle Into Yale

When Rory has to move into Yale, Lorelai goes into full best friend mode and stays there the first night with her. She orders Rory and her roommates tons of food and basically starts a little party in their dorm for all of the girls on Rory’s floor. It is a great scene where we get to see Lorelai and Rory just have fun together.

Despite Rory feeling insecure about needing her mom to stay with her the first night, it ends up working in her favor and setting herself up to make some great friends at Yale. It is a great scene in the fourth season that shows Lorelai is still going to be a big influence on Rory even though they won’t be living together while she is at Yale. It is also a great episode for new fans to watch since it highlights the strong bond between Lorelai and Rory.

1 Luke Takes Lorelai To The Hospital To See Her Father

The scene starts off with the underrated moment of Luke making Lorelai a festive-themed dinner since she is missing her parents’ Christmas party. Lorelai is so appreciative that he went out of his way to make her feel special but then she gets the call that her father had a heart attack. She doesn’t know what to do with herself and Luke immediately jumps into action.

He closes the entire diner down and takes her to the hospital. The scene really shows how much Luke cares about Lorelai despite their constant banter. Fans love to see Luke and Lorelai’s moments in the first season since it makes it so clear that they really do have such a strong connection. It remains one of the sweetest moments in their relationship and friendship throughout the entire series.
