Surprisingly, it is Will and Emma’s relationship that has fallen under the microscope as many have begun to criticize the romance. Despite the couple having one of the most stable relationships, several fans believe they are no good for each other. For every good moment they have, a bad one is seen to follow closely afterward.

Will and Emma may have got their happy ending but they almost didn’t as the couple took a mild break in season 4. After Will takes a position in Washington, the relationship becomes strained when the history teacher pressured Emma into coming with him. Although they attempt long-distance, Emma admits she “doesn’t know who he is anymore” and stands him up at the altar.

It’s not the first time the couple suffered as a result of poor communication, as their first attempt also failed when Will didn’t tell Emma that he wasn’t ready for a relationship.

One of the reasons why Emma and Will’s relationship lasted so long was because it was built on the solid foundation of friendship. From the beginning, it was clear there was a connection between them. She was the only one who encouraged him to continue with the glee club while he was shown to help her with her OCD.

After becoming each other’s confidants, Emma and Will’s relationship developed and it wasn’t long before they started dating. Even when they broke up, they still remained close so it wasn’t surprising that they were “endgame.”

Most fans hated that Emma and Will both pursued one another when the other was married. In season 1, Emma spent most of her time longing after Will, trying to get closer to him despite knowing that he had a wife with a “child” on the way.

Similarly, in season 2, Will attempted to sabotage Carl and Emma’s relationship because he was jealous. The fact that Emma and Will refused to respect these boundaries proves they aren’t as nice as they make themselves out to be.

Another reason why Emma and Will’s relationship went the distance was because of how supportive they were of each other. Will’s relationship with Terri was full of uncompromising decisions. Terri wanted him to become an accountant, demanded he get her her dream house, and constantly manipulated him.

On the other hand, Will’s relationship with Emma was the complete opposite. Not only did they encourage each other to go after their dreams but they also made compromises that would benefit the other. They were genuinely happy to see the other succeed.

In Will and Emma’s semi-dating stage, he agreed that they needed work on their issues before they gave their relationship another shot. What he neglected to tell her was that he had kissed Shelby and allowed April to sleep in his bed.

Viewers also can’t forget how irrational he was when Emma initially refused to join him in Washington. It’s moments like these that fans wished Carl came back.

From the very beginning, fans knew that Will and Emma would end up together as there was no mistaking the chemistry between them. They were both kind and compassionate, treated each other with respect, and were both passionate about their jobs.

As time went on, it wasn’t hard for fans to get emotionally invested as Matthew Morrison and Jayma Mays’ chemistry radiated in every scene they were in. Even when Will and Emma were with other people, fans knew they would find a way back to one another in the end.

4 Not: Both Can Be Very Toxic

Many fans will agree that at the beginning of season 2, Will wasn’t likable. He buys the same car as Carl in a desperate attempt to impress Emma, and when he hears how much Carl is helping with her OCD, Will says the dentist is “winning,” as if Emma was a prize.

Emma’s far from perfect either. She takes pleasure in hearing Will’s drunk dial despite being married to Carl and attempts to get closer to him when she was engaged to Ken. None of these moments show healthy behavior.

3 Perfect: Always Had Each Other’s Backs

Although Emma and Will have fallen out a couple of times, they would still be seen fighting in each other’s corner if need be. For instance, when Emma heard Figgins was cutting the Glee Club, she wasted no time in confronting him.

Despite Will wanting to make a good impression on Emma’s parents, he jumped to her defense when they mocked her mental health. Through thick and thin, Emma and Will had each other’s backs.

2 Not: A Relationship Built On Infidelity

If fans take a closer look at the relationship, they will realize it’s not exactly ideal. Not only did Will cheat on Emma with Shelby but technically, Emma cheated on Will with Finn since she never mentioned their kiss to him. A few fans have also mentioned that Emma and Will had an emotional affair with one another.

Although Terri did an awful thing, nobody can fault her for having concerns when Will was flirting with Emma. The same applied to Emma’s marriage Carl; it couldn’t progress when he knew she was still in love with Will.

1 Perfect: There For Each Other In Dark Times

While Emma and Will’s relationship had been tested, there were plenty of moments that proved how much they loved one another. As fans know, they both have had some low points. However, they always supported one another.

When Emma was struggling with her OCD, Will often helped her with her compulsions and encouraging her to seek professional help. Emma also proved to be a pillar of strength when she helped Will come to terms with his divorce and comforted him when Finn died. No matter how bad things got, the other person was always there to help them through.
