Of all of Sony’s gaming superstars, it’s hard to imagine Kratos as a selfie-taking kind of guy. Still, some dreams cannot be denied, and the oft-requested Photo Mode has arrived in God of War.

The more discerning gamers among you have probably heard of this little game. It’s not a big deal, but it’s made a modest sort of splash, and a couple of reviewers have had some moderately positive things to say about it. Put in a non-snarky way, really has proven to be a phenomenon, undoubtedly PS4’s biggest offering since the smash that was Monster Hunter World.

In today’s gaming landscape, it’s not uncommon for games to be rushed out of the gate, half-finished, relying on later updates, DLC and patches to pick up the slack. Some cynics would tell you that this has become the rule, rather than the exception. On that note, it’s refreshing to see such a huge, high-profile title arriving in such a polished state. Great work, God of War.

Even with all of that said, that doesn’t mean that we’re going to turn down further additions and content for this glorious game, does it? You don’t look a noble, valiant and powerful war-steed in the mouth, as they say where Kratos comes from. For those players who have expressed distaste at only being able to take shots of the back of Kratos’ head, Santa Monica Studios presents Photo Mode.

As PlayStation Blog reports, the game’s 1.20 update is available right now, and will add the mode. It’s accessed through the Options button (or Touch Pad Quick Access, if that sort of thing is your bag). Once you’ve fired up Photo Mode, you move the camera with the sticks and trigger buttons. From there, you’ve got five different tool tabs to play with: Camera, Aperture, Filters, Borders and Characters.

For the most part, these functions are quite self-explanatory, allowing you to adjust the field of view, depth of field, f-stop and other such technical camera functionality. In the post, the team comment that “with God of War, we hoped to craft a game experience that was both a technical and art showcase,” and that attention to visual detail is clear to see in the Photo Mode. Less artistically, but just as brilliantly, the Characters tab allows the player to change the facial expressions of Kratos and Atreus. There are all kinds of hilarious possibilities there.
