As reported by Ars Technica, Sony has confirmed that Jetpack Interactive is helming God of War’s PC Port while developer Santa Monica Studio, who is currently working on the follow-up God of War Ragnarok, is overseeing the project.

The Canadian outfit has worked with Sony before on the Orcs Must Die! Unchained console port for PlayStation 4, but God of War will be the opposite, taking a PlayStation game and making it work on PC rather than the other way around. With that, it’s hard to predict how well the PC port will operate from a technical standpoint, but Dark Souls’ own is infamous within the community for being unoptimized and buggy while lacking a slew of expected features. Many modders have since ironed out the kinks with the likes of DSFix.

Jetpack Interactive’s official website lists several projects that it has worked on for Amazon Game Studios, Electronic Arts, and Bandai Namco. For the latter, the studio “provided engineering support for [Dark Souls’] Steam upgrade.” God of War will be the studio’s first big project, evident by its portfolio, but what’s more, the studio seems to be involved in God of War Ragnarok’s own development in some capacity. At least, judging by its LinkedIn account.

While Jetpack Interactive’s previous works, such as Dark Souls for PC, were fairly infamous among the community for their technical states, God of War seems to be an entirely different kettle of fish. Sony’s prior ports – such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, and Days Gone – have had their own troubled launches, but things have been improving on the PC front for PlayStation. God of War could continue that upward trend.

God of War launches for Steam on January 14, bringing improved visuals, ultra-wide support, unlocked framerate, DLSS, and Nvidia Reflex support. For those who already enjoyed Kratos’s latest adventure back in 2018, Santa Monica Studio is working on God of War Ragnarok with the intention being to end the “Norse Saga” with a “surprising yet inevitable” conclusion.
