The Contract update for Grand Theft Auto Online will feature Dr. Dre and Eminem on a music track that the legendary producer teased over the weekend in a snippet. Credited with discovering Eminem, Dr. Dre is a longtime collaborator of the Detroit native whose songs have, surprisingly, never appeared on a Grand Theft Auto soundtrack.
Interestingly, Snoop Dogg, another artist Dre put on the map, was the first to out Dr. Dre’s work on the new GTA Online content. Following weeks of nonstop rumors and speculation, Rockstar Games unveiled The Contract update several days ago, confirming the rapper’s cameo and Grand Theft Auto V star Franklin Clinton’s return to the spotlight. The update takes place years after the events of GTA V; Franklin now runs a “celebrity solutions agency” that will aid Dr. Dre in his quest to retrieve a phone he lost that’s filled with unreleased music tracks. Other returning characters include the likes of Lamar Davis and Franklin’s dog Chop.
The official gameplay trailer for GTA Online’s The Contract featured music from Dr. Dre and Anderson .Paak. It seems the latter isn’t the only rapper joining Dre in his musical journey for the online Rockstar title. Over the weekend, as spotted by TheGamer, an upload from a fan-run Dr. Dre channel on YouTube featured a 12-second snippet of a song seemingly titled, “The Goats.” A quick tease of an Eminem verse can be heard during this 12-second span of time, suggesting Em will finally make his Grand Theft Auto debut. Such news will no doubt be a treat for fans of both Dr. Dre and Eminem, though their collaborations have never been few and far between. And, hopefully, this sets a precedent for Eminem to appear on more GTA soundtracks in the future.
GTA Online’s The Contract could prove the most ambitious of the multiplayer suite’s updates, thus far. The inclusion of Dr. Dre and the return of Franklin has especially built up plenty of hype for the new content release. However, some GTA V faithful can’t help but wonder why Rockstar relegated content of this caliber to the online mode instead of offering it as single-player DLC.
