Reportedly, the resources Rockstar Games is dedicating to fixing Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition may delay future updates to GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Rockstar and developer Grove Street Games have faced a whirlwind of backlash following the disastrous launch of GTA Trilogy. The remastered collection released in such an unprepared state that the PC version was briefly removed from the Rockstar Games Launcher in the hours following its rollout across all platforms.

A litany of glitches continue to plague each of the three remastered titles, as well. Rain-related bugs see rainfall drop in long white strands that obscure the screen. An error from GTA III’s original PlayStation 2 release that enlarges cars remains intact. Floating vehicles and NPCs serve as a couple of other ongoing issues. Not to mention the poor performance and crashes that players often report. While developers are hard at work on addressing these problems and more, many can’t help but wonder why the collection was deployed in such a broken state. Now it seems Rockstar will resort to siphoning internal resources in an effort to improve upon the experiences.

Insider and Twitter user Tez2 claims to have heard from sources that GTA Onine and Red Dead Online may be affected by Rockstar Games’ effort to fix GTA Trilogy. The insider said the studio has begun “allocating more resources and devs to assist” with patches that address the myriad issues in the beleaguered remastered collection. As a result, launch plans for Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online updates could sit on the recieving end of minor delays.

Hearing from sources, Rockstar is allocating more resources and devs to assist with GTA Trilogy post-launch development (patches, fixes …etc). There’s a fair chance, release windows for GTAO & RDO updates might be pushed a bit further back than the usual timing.

This may disappoint GTA Online and Red Dead Online users longing for fresh content, especially since the latter hasn’t received a robust update in quite a long time. There exists a silver lining, however, in that this suggests Rockstar is taking the improvements to GTA Trilogy very seriously, so seriously that its pulling resources from GTA’s multimillion-dollar-earning online suite. It is worth remembering, though, that Tez2’s comment on the matter remains uncorrobrated and should, thus, be taken with a grain of salt for now.

GTA Trilogy packs in three classic titles from the seminal open-world franchise – GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. Ahead of the botched launch, Rockstar promised enhanced visuals, updated controls, and the definitive way in which to experience the PS2 classics. The use of the word “definitive” now seems a drastic overstatement.
