Undoubtedly, one of the most popular characters from the roster the makes up the Guardians of The Galaxy is Rocket Raccoon. Rescued from the forgotten comics where he once appeared in the 80s, the witty talking creature won the hearts of the MCU fanbase, spanning a resurgence in the print from.

Interpreted by both Bradly Cooper and Sean Gunn (the first does the voice, the last does the movement), the kleptomaniac raccoon is most likely to return for the third installment of the Guardian Of The Galaxy movies. But as much as the character is beloved, there are some things about him that don’t that add up, and here are ten of them.

10 How Is He Able To Carry Those Guns?

Guardians Of The Galaxy 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rocket

One thing is suspending disbelief about a talking bipedal raccoon, but another is seeing the same raccoon handling two enormous guns with its little paws. Well, that’s exactly what Rocket is able to do and he has been seen on several occasions wielding two massive guns, apparently, his favorite way of combat.

On top of that, he is able to jump with them and even run. For fans, this is already a staple of the character but it is intriguing, nonetheless, that everybody doesn’t hesitate when seeing the little rascal fighting in that manner.

9 How Does He Undesrtstands Groot?

Guardians Of The Galaxy 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rocket

This one baffles everyone, even his teammates in the first Guardian Of The Galaxy movie (although, eventually, they learned it too). It is truly a mystery how Rocket is able to understand his best friend Groot. He says it himself to Peter Quill: “[Groot] don’t know talking good like me and you, so his vocabulistics is limited to ‘I’ and ‘am’ and ‘Groot.’ Exclusively, in that order.”

A pretty simple grammar, if you can even call it that. Maybe is like Chinese which changes according to the intonations? Who knows, but Rocket’s ability to communicate with the lovely tree-person is such, that he is able to establish an endearing friendship.

8 Where Did He Learn Sassy Talk?

First of all, where did he learn English? How come every alien in the Guardian Of The Galaxy movies knows English and uses it as the primary language of communication? Now, this is a superhero movie and viewers can make concessions about what to accept as verisimilar and what not.

But how come Rocket knows how to express in such a human-cheeky way? And where did he pick up that Cockney accent? One thing is learning English and the other is to talk in such a specific human way.

7 How Is He Able To Fly Spaceships?

Guardians Of The Galaxy 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rocket

This one is related to his ability to handle big guns. Rocket has been described as a very good pilot (by himself mostly) and he often fights for the Milano captainship with Quill. Considering that this is his team ship, one could assume the vehicle is equipped with special controls for his little paws.

But Rocket is able to pilot any kind of ship and control sizes don’t seem to be a problem for his raccoon sized body. What’s going on here? How many raccoon laws can he break?

6 Why Does He Wear Clothes?

Guardians Of The Galaxy 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rocket

This one is confusing because it can be argued that his decision to wear clothing comes from his desire to be treated as a normal individual. However, his personality is one of disinterest for etiquette, being himself a space bandit. So, why would he like to have robes on top of his fur, that not only would be uncomfortable to use but in combat as well?

And is not like he is embarrassed about being naked. He is a raccoon, an animal, and that’s enough excuse to go around naked blasting his enemies with guns.

5 Why does He act As Groot’s Father?

Guardians Of The Galaxy 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rocket

At the end of Guardian Of The Galaxy Vol.1 Groot sacrifices himself to protect his new friends, resulting in a kind of death that only left a little branch version of himself. This meant that he had to go through the process of growing up again. In Vol.2 he is kind of toddler and in the last Avengers movies, he is a pre-teen.

Interestingly enough, Rocket assumed a parental identity towards little Groot, going so far as to reprimand him. Treating a friend like a son is pretty weird and a little bit out of character for Rocket.

4 What Happened To Those Like Him?

Guardians Of The Galaxy 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rocket

In the movies, it is implied that Rocket is the result of an experiment that literally ripped him apart and put him back together several times to make him like he is today: a walking talking raccoon. In the comics, it is explained that a race of robots liked to experiment with animals like him.

So, it begs the question: where all animals like Rocket? Surely he has to know where the other experiments are or if they are alive. And why would a superintelligent robot race like to make a raccoon talk?

3 Where Does He Stores Everything He Steal?

One aspect from his animalistic instincts that is still strong in Rocket is his propensity to take what is not his. Basically stealing, and throughout the MCU movies he has been featured, Rocket has been stealing or wanting to steal stuff, especially prosthetics, like the eye he gave Thor and the arm of Bucky.

However, it seems unlikely for a raccoon to find so much space for the things it steals, even if he stores it in the Milano. And it is not small stuff either, we’re talking arms, legs, and big weapons.

2 How Can He Enjoy Alcohol?

Guardians Of The Galaxy 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rocket

It is known that human’s taste for alcohol is an acquired one. After thousands of generations enjoying some kind of an alcoholic beverage, people are pretty much programmed to look for their favorite way to intoxicate themself. But an animal is a whole other story since they haven’t developed the taste, evolutionarily speaking.

An as much a Rocket was altered genetically is weird to see him trying alcohol and getting drunk. He probably doesn’t even like the taste and on top of that, alcohol makes him very emotional in the worst way.

1 Why Doesn’t He Like Being Called A Raccoon?

Despite his outrageous demeanor, Rocket can be sometimes the voice of reason and maturity in the group. Even outside the Guardians, like the Time he helped Thor snap out of his grief after his reunion with his mother.

So it seems a little unreasonable for him to be so upset when being called a “Raccoon”. Is understandable he might have some issues of identity, but what else can he be if not the animal he was before he was experimented on?
