With Halo: The Master Chief Collection having recently gotten Halo 2: Anniversary on PC, it was only a matter of time before we learned about when Halo 3 would be joining the collection. It could be happening a lot sooner than we expected, especially if this announcement of a public beta is anything to go off of.

In a post on the MCC development blog, 343 Industries has stated that it intends to begin public “flighting” of Halo 3 in early June. “Our goal is to have the Halo 3 public flight kicked off in the first half of June. We can’t wait to get the community involved!” reads the post. If everything goes well, Halo 3 might be on PC before July.

If you’d like to get involved with the beta period, make sure to update your Halo Insider profile. By signing up for the Insider program, you’ll be given a chance to test these beta periods and provide feedback to 343 for improving the final game. It’s a rather simple process that simply requires you to log into your Xbox Live account (or Microsoft account if you’re on Windows) and check a few boxes.

It will be interesting to see the results of the beta period for Halo 3. Despite running tests for the last three ports on PC, 343 Industries has yet to launch a Halo title on PC without some kind of issue. Reach is still plagued by sound and framepacing problems while both Halo 1 and Halo 2 have strange issues with their anniversary graphics.

Halo 3 is often cited as the best of Bungie’s original trilogy, so it would be great to have the PC port launch with no major problems. No developer would ever be able to catch every bug before release, but the issues plaguing the MCC right now are really not acceptable. Microsoft should be giving the team more time to better port these massively important shooters.

There’s probably nothing to really worry about, though. On Xbox One, Halo 3 fared the best in the MCC since it was mostly a direct port. It stands to reason that the PC version will be in great shape, which could turn it into the definitive way to play this trilogy closer.
