Developer 343 Industries teamed up with Dark Horse Comics for an updated version of the Halo Encyclopedia, which spans approximately 500 pages in length and should launch in March 2022. But some fans of the 20-year-old sci-fi franchise may already have a copy of Halo Encyclopedia stored on their shelves.
Originally released in 2009 by DK Publishing, Halo Encyclopedia: The Definitive Guide to the Halo Universe received an expanded edition in 2011. The 368-page revision covered everything from 2001’s Combat Evolved to Bungie’s final entry in the series – Halo: Reach. Fans who thumbed through the comprehensive guide found themselves lost in details about the Spartan program, the wider universe, and expanded lore previously explored in comic books and novels. Essentially, the 2011 edition of the Halo Encyclopedia walked readers through every facet of the award-winning property. Given the number of Halo sequels that have launched since then, it would seem the brand is due for another detailed guide.
343’s Franchise Team of Jeff Easterling, Jeremy Patenaude, and Kenneth Peters will pen the newest edition of Halo Encyclopedia, produced in conduction with Dark Horse Comics. Announced on Halo Waypoint, the encyclopedia will prove 25 percent larger than its predecessor, coming in at nearly 500 pages long. Fans can expect the compendium to boast original 343-made concept art, works from Dark Horse, lore, clarifications, and “maybe even a few revelations.” Setting the minds of Halo faithful at ease, the post on Halo Waypoint additionally revealed the brand’s long-time cross-referencer Stephen Loftus will participate as a fact-checker of sorts. Since the expansive compendium will no doubt feature information concerning Halo Infinite, a March 2022 release date for Halo Encyclopedia seems perfectly timed. The lengthy wait for the book post-Infinite’s rollout will give fans plenty of time to explore the new title before diving into its behind-the-scenes details.
