Players are encountering a nasty glitch in Halo Infinite, one that is corrupting their save data in both the single-player campaign and multiplayer game modes. The latest installment of Microsoft’s long-running sci-fi FPS franchise finally launched in full after a long and troubled development, earning praise from fans and critics alike as both a loving tribute to past Halo games and a solid entry point for beginners. Halo Infinite’s multiplayer was released early in November, breaking Steam records as players logged on to see how 343 Industries refined and built upon the time-honored Halo formula after Infinite’s divisive early showings in 2020.

Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign has earned particularly high marks, continuing the story of Master Chief as he faces off against a new threat in the Banished on the battlefield of the Zeta Halo. The Halo Infinite campaign contains plenty of Easter Eggs for eagle-eyed fans to uncover, and players have already warmed up to the Chief’s new Grappleshot and Repulsor weapons by pulling off impressive tricks in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. Unfortunately, a new glitch is ruining the fun for players jumping into Halo Infinite’s story, and it’s even wiping out hours of progress spent on the online battlefield too.

As reported by VG247, Halo Infinite players are coming across an odd gameplay glitch that seems benign at first, but ultimately leads to virtually all of their save data being corrupted. Users on the Resetera and Halo Waypoint forums have reported respawning in Infinite’s third-person mode and either clipping through the floor or hovering helplessly in the air, triggering an Xbox sign-in prompt to pop up onscreen. The problem is that the player in question is already logged into Halo Infinite, which means that doing so again as prompted will result in a glitch that corrupts the player’s login data for both single-player and multiplayer – requiring the player to wipe everything clean and start fresh with a new save file. This issue seems to be a problem for both the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions of Halo Infinite, as demonstrated by YouTuber Duskin K.

Curiously enough, some curious players have managed to replicate this glitch Halo Infinite by plugging in a second controller, switching this controllers connection from wired to Bluetooth, attempting to log onto the game on PC while playing on the Xbox Series X/S, and using Halo Infinite’s quick resume feature while playing another game with multiple users signed onto the same account. In Halo Infinite’s multiplayer, doing this can cause players to spawn through the floor mid-game – rendering them vulnerable to opponents.

So far, neither Microsoft nor 343 Industries has addressed this game-breaking Halo Infinite glitch, but it seems to be a growing problem for players who are enjoying the latest entry in the Halo series. Hopefully, the issue can be resolved in an update patch soon so players can focus on fighting it out in Halo Infinite without worrying about losing hours of progress in an instant.
