The official Xbox Twitter account has poked fun at the meme of Craig the Brute from Halo Infinite with a new image showing the graphical transformation of the character. The game was originally meant to release late last year but was delayed indefinitely following Halo Infinite’s gameplay debut at the Xbox Games Show in July 2020. Fans roundly criticized the visuals shown and this prompted 343 Industries and Microsoft to reevaluate their plans and overhaul the game’s presentation.

One of the lightning rods for criticism following the Xbox Games Showcase was a Brute that that has since been dubbed Craig. The character had a deadpan appearance and was lacking detail on its character model. This ugly Brute soon spread across the internet and was a central focus of memes designed to ridicule the game. Developer 343 Industries later explained why the Brutes in Halo Infinite were so ugly, saying that facial animations for Brutes had not yet been implemented when the gameplay trailer was shown.

The Xbox team has poked fun at the Craig the Brute memes that became popular online last year, posting its own version of the meme to Twitter. The post shows a Brute from the newly upgraded version of Halo Infinite alongside the infamous Craig, giving a good indication of just how much has changed between the two versions of the title. The official Halo Twitter account later replied to the original message showing more Brutes from the upcoming release.

343 Industries recently gave fans a closer look at Halo Infinite in a story trailer for the title. From what was shown in the footage, the game has seen a notable graphical upgrade, with characters, enemies, and the environment all looking better than they have in previous reveals. In-engine video showed Master Chief and UNSC Marines battling across the partially open world of Zeta Halo. The trailer also showed more footage of the new grappling hook device, which allows Master Chief to zip around the world, along with the ability to spawn vehicles at special stations.

Even though the Brutes were not in their final form when shown during the original gameplay reveal, Craig quickly became the face of Halo Infinite and its problems. Now that most of those issues have been fixed, it is a good idea to show just how far the enemies have come over the last year or so, and Craig does look much more detailed than he once did.
