Halo Infinite may have been delayed, but the Halo universe still had a lot to celebrate in 2020. According to new info from 343 Industries, Halo: The Master Chief Collection brought in the most new players to the franchise since Halo 3.
343 Industries posted a lengthy holiday update to its blog, detailing Halo Infinite, the upcoming TV series, and a look back at the wild year that was 2020. At the end of the post, Bonnie Ross, founder and head of 343 Industries, gave fans her thoughts on how the year had unfolded. The biggest revelation? Just how popular Halo: The Master Chief Collection was:
“During this time, we launched FIVE games as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC, leading to the largest addition of new players to the franchise since Halo 3. In addition, the team put in a ton of work to release optimized console versions for Xbox Series X|S along with numerous community-requested features for all platforms. And there’s more MCC content coming next year!”
The collection of games is no doubt a great one, but pushing Halo Infinite to 2021 must have helped boost its performance. If a truly new Halo experience was available to players, it’s not likely these aging titles would have seen the turnout they did in 2020.
Ross continued on and said, “2021 will be a big year for the Halo franchise. As we recently announced, Halo Infinite will release in fall of 2021. I realize the wait has been difficult, and I assure you that the team wants the game in your hands as soon as possible, but they also want to deliver something special… the Halo game you deserve.”
Halo Infinite was the focus of 343 Day last week, with the team offering a look at the games development process. Everything from graphics and art to customization options and design philosophies were discusses – making the wait for 2021 a bit easier.
